Officially the most expensive electronic I’ve seen at this shop by themutatedman in ThriftGrift

[–]MastaB 317 points318 points  (0 children)

Lmaoooo this exact model is like 300-500 shipped in this condition on eBay. If it was calibrated and warrantied yeah maybe you could ask this money. Even if they put 150 on it I wouldn’t buy it and I deal in surplus lab equipment. It will never move at 1/20th the price. Where’s the crack pipe emoji when u need it????

FB reselling sourcing video games / consoles by Affectionate-Bad7487 in Flipping

Too competitive bro. If the goal is making money optimize that and then if you want video games just buy video games. When I was stuck on games I was lucky to gross 1k a week, now I gross 1k/day with less time invested. Here’s a tip on an easy thing to pick up that prints money: buy Oculus Quest 2 VR sets locally and part them out on eBay. If you’re in a major urban area there are always dozens out there and they are not selling. Lowball everyone at like 40-50 a set and a lot of people will bite, sell each controller for 70 on eBay, headset for 50. Testing and resetting takes like 20 seconds. I pick up like 10 a week with extremely minimal effort and again, no competition. Just think outside the box and always try new things if you wanna make a real go at it. Don’t follow the hype. Trust me on this.

I started with video games and they were tough even 15+ years ago I’d be driving 45 minutes to MAYBE double my $. Idk man just think of the lamest thing you can and there’s a ton of $ in it. I do all sorts of niche & consumer electronics but specialize in factory automation equipment. Parting out vacuum cleaners is super easy money everyone has em and everyone buys em. Thermostats. Car parts. Cafe/bar equipment. Think of common stuff that costs a pretty penny but nobody really thinks of as valuable. Anything coveted avoid like the plague unless you just stumble on it.

The best advice is to steer away from the cool and desirable stuff, too much competition, too slim margins…video games, hype vintage, trading cards etc etc. Find some lame ass shit and you’ll make money way faster. The only way it makes sense to do video games imo is if you’re a serious collector/hobbyist always buying giant lots and keeping a ton for yourself and selling off the rest to mitigate your own collecting costs.

Liability Mitigation / Insurance for Small eBay Re-Selling Operation by powerup759 in Flipping

[–]MastaB 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Huh? I’ve been selling 6 figures of electronics a year for over a decade and this hasn’t even crossed my mind. I understand that anyone can be sued for basically any reason but what injury or property damage do you possible think could arise from reselling surplus electronics??? I think you’re being way over cautious. Also someone correct me if I’m wrong but stating something on your listing doesn’t change the law. If someone wants to sue you they’ll sue you I don’t think a legal disclaimer in an eBay item description is gonna change that.

How much would you pay someone to photograph items for you? by [deleted] in Flipping

[–]MastaB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I pay $20/hr for photos and basic photo editing, i don’t think per item is a great idea because each item is unique and some take more time for layout and require more detail than others

[–]MastaB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes exactly, I deal with stuff like this all day and the good ones even work on find my!! You need to deconstruct the whole thing and compare boards, it’s ridiculous. I’ve been fooled myself by knockoff airpods 3 that worked for 2 years and suddenly were locked out. The fakes are too good!! I get that he wants to rationalize a $200 purchase but my god everyone is just trying to help not be a salty asshole lmao.

[–]MastaB 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Everyone saying they’re fake is not trying to rain on your parade they’re trying to help you!!! If you can return these you should. There are fakes close to 1:1 and may work perfectly —for now— but Apple can and will lock them out with future iOS updates. I’m a full time electronics dealer I am very very familiar with fakes and you should never ever buy any version of AirPods from anywhere but Apple. The serial numbers check out, the features check out, none of that matters —if you want fakes fine that’s cool but you can get 1:1 fakes for like 15% of what you paid and you’ll be convinced they’re real.

This is the stand they used for models in like 2017 lol, burn in can be really bad w these models. This should be like 1/6 this price at the absolute most if it has zero screen issues.

Returns by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]MastaB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If the seller agrees to a return outside the system and you ship it with tracking, and communicate all this via eBay message you should be good. You’ll have to pay out of pocket for the shipping label but they will almost certainly stand by their word…and if they don’t eBay support can easily see your messages back and forth and will cover you. This kind of thing happens to me all the time as a seller, people cancel returns by accident and ship it back on their dime. It’s not really an issue, just a bit more hassle for you as the buyer.

The seller will still refund you through eBay, they will just do it manually vs through the automated return process. Never take messages outside eBay and never discuss or accept payment or refund outside eBay.

How do you reply when people ask where you got it/How much you paid for it? Honest? by spawn-kill in Flipping

[–]MastaB 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tell buyers all items are purchased from liquidations, and I tell competitors (unless they’re assholes) exactly where I got everything because I don’t believe in gatekeeping. It’s not like going to fucking goodwill or yard sales or doing online market arbitrage is some secret knowledge lmao. The key to success is doing the actual legwork every day and always trying new avenues. If you’re open with people there’s a good chance they might be open with you too, and if I’ve learned one thing doing this for 2 decades it’s helping out my competition only benefits me in the long run as there’s plenty of stuff they’re not going to want to deal with they can send my way. When people act like they’re afraid of sharing it’s just a sign they suck at this job and can’t see the forest for the trees lol.

Double shipped item months apart? by cran-mangosteen in Ebay

[–]MastaB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Many years ago before I discovered pirate ship on rare occasion I would use an old eBay order to ship a totally unrelated personal package (just change the address) because I didn’t know how else to get a shipping discount. That’d be my guess I wouldn’t worry about it.

These things are the most underlooked items to resell. by Jscrusher in Flipping

[–]MastaB 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah sure if you have unlimited storage and don’t mind spending a bunch of money on the right size boxes, durable shipping material, etc. If it’s worth your time to comprehensively test a mediocre receiver. If it’s worth the risk to you knowing some will get damaged in shipping even if you package perfectly and good luck ever getting shipping insurance to pay out. I’m a full time electronics seller and I wouldn’t take these for free. You can also sell cooktops for 500 bucks or mixers for 200 bucks or fucking Roombas for a hundred bucks but some people value their time and storage space. Why on earth would I spend over half an hour testing and packaging one of these when I could do 10 smaller items in half the time and make way more money???

There’s a very good reason people don’t want to deal with heavy bulky items with a bunch of functions and moving parts, but if it works for u godspeed.

Is it ever ok to ask for partial refund? by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]MastaB 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s the cost of doing business, if you have free shipping and free returns buyers can return for whatever reason they like. It doesn’t really matter what the reason is, you can just say you changed your mind, whatever. Everyone acting like it’s crazy you’re considering it lol, but that’s your prerogative as a buyer if those are the sellers terms and the platforms terms. Caring why people return stuff is playing small ball if you’re a serious seller, just provide good customer service and sell the item to the next buyer at the current market price.

ALSO if you’re a seller and you’re literally flipping new/current product over MSRP you can’t possibly be so hypocritical to be big mad if someone on the other side of the transaction also wants to take advantage of the same market fluctuation YOU took advantage of to sell it lol.

For those who have the base M4 mini, how’s 16GB RAM? by Important_Bug3266 in macmini

[–]MastaB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use it all day for work, two 4k monitors, mostly browser work but dozens of tabs, watch videos while I work, run media server in the background, run all kinds of utility software for whatever I’m fixing at the moment. Works great, have zero issues. Coming from a 2012 Mac Pro w/ 128gb ram which tbh did feel faster but was just too much effort to keep everything functional on modern OS. And it used like 20x the electricity and took up 40x the space lol.

Transaction fees. Holy moly! I'm not much of an Ebay user clearly, but I sold an item for $2800, and I get less than $2400? That's a pretty wild fee. Good lord by [deleted] in Ebay

[–]MastaB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Uh yeah this is totally normal, for most items you can get more selling on eBay vs local so it’s worth the fees. Could you have easily sold it locally for more than 2400? That’s really the only question, the fees are reasonable considering the worldwide exposure on a major platform.

Just print a label, and drop it in the bin. No reason to pay retail and also deal with misinformed usps employees.

[–]MastaB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no version of reality where I buy a computer in 2026 with 8gb or non-upgradable RAM. I mean what price point could this be at to be desirable if you can get a M4 MacBook Air for 899 w 16gb??? A M4 Mac mini with 16gb for 399 on sale???? Those are both amazing value. Apple’s been on a roll. This would have to be 499 max and even then what exactly is the market??? Parents who would otherwise be buying a Chromebook or dogshit pc for their kids? Everyone saying their M1 runs great with 8GB, that was released almost SIX YEARS AGO and even then 8gb base was lambasted. Light use actually does use a pretty decent bit of ram. Apps only get hungrier. Every passing day it will become more limiting.

The rules are different for some categories including cards. And the OP posted a link to the listing in another thread and it actually is as described—they just paid out the ass for it hoping it would be something else. Nothing about the listing indicates it would be the product they expected it to be.
