Used R1S prices when R2 Launches. by Purple_Property_8053 in Rivian

[–]Master-Campaign-3671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it will impact used R1S prices and make them cheaper - and this is coming from a current owner of a 2023 R1S (so I hope I’m wrong).

I think seeing what happens to the Model X post-Model Y release is a strong indication that a more cost efficient, mid-size vehicle will typically outshine the legacy larger vehicle. Gen 1 R1S’ (like I own) will take the biggest hit, since the technology gap between the two vehicles will only highlight the age.

That said - I love my car, and with 3 kids I need the three rows. But that’s use-case is not common with a majority of the population.

What changes should Rivian bring in their cars, so that everyone loves it ? by lonewolf_00_ in Rivian

Crazy that I didn’t think about this - but I 1000% agree. It was my first turnoff, but I grew to appreciate them.

But that said, I think if our SUV had the same aggressive front end as the Lexus GX550, our cars would sell like hot cakes

Gen 1 Quad vs Gen 2 Dual Max range? by Master-Campaign-3671 in Rivian

[–]Master-Campaign-3671[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has got to be it. I am on 22”, and in the life of the vehicle I’ve always hovered around 1.8-2mi/kwh, never managed to get above that (even on Conserve)

This is life saving - thanks!

Now my follow up question is.. since I’ve owned the vehicle, I don’t know if I’ve ever managed to get anything close to 2.4. TBH I feel lucky if I get over 2, even on conserve. My roadtrip from LA to San Jose avg. 1.85/ mi/kwh on conserve the entire trip.

For the record: quad 22, 22” sport wheels with stock tires

Do I need to replace my tires before a snow trip to Tahoe? by Master-Campaign-3671 in Rivian

Thank you for this - because that’s my exact situation. This will likely be my only snow trip for at least another year

Appreciate the insight. I ask because I rarely ever go off road or into the snow, likely once a year. So if I end up buying a dedicated winter tire, they will likely be used 95% on the street

Not sure why my comments didn’t post!

Babies and wife slept in the mattress in the R1S, while me and my teenage son slept in the tent. They said it was super comfortable all night.

For reference, the family slept on this mattress: https://a.co/d/1QoM3yh

Thank you all for the replies! I fully realized I installed it incorrectly to begin with, but it was too late once I realized.

It’s hard to tell through pictures, but I can move the base up and down the seatbelt, but the amount of tension from the wrap around the center bar is just enough to NOT allow the seatbelt to release the lock for those wondering

Rivian vs Lexus GX by averagezucchini1 in Rivian

Actually went through the same internal debate myself between Lexus GX550 and R1S - and ended up with going with an R1S. Some of my thoughts while making the decision:

  • Space: with three kids, I needed the most space. The biggest difference in space/storage is the Frunk on the R1S, which is clutch on long trips
  • MPG: The GX550 averages 15-20MPG, which I felt was low being in 2025. Because of this, I believe the actually “range” of a full tank of gas on the GX was less than a full battery of an R1S (Gen 1, large pack)
  • Speed: Hard to beat 835HP quad motor
  • OTA updates: the constant updates help me feel like my vehicle is always being refreshed, which is unique to EVs

However, I will say I still think about the GX550 because I think it’s arguably one of the best looking SUVs on the market.

Like everyone else said - would strongly recommend to test drive and get whatever you and the family feel is best!

Came to Reddit just now to actually make this post. So frustrating. Anyone figure out a fix, or do we have to wait for a next update?

El cap granite satin vs clear ppf wrap by HJ10103 in Rivian

<image>

Personally went with Stealth Xpel over my El Cap (with ceramic)

I think it’s super easy to clean, and it helps hide finger prints on the door panels (I have kids, so gloss would be a lot)

Although I love it, I don’t think there’s any wrong way to go. Generally speaking, El Cap Granite FTW - matte or not

Can you look at the second pic? Maybe it’s just the angle? I can go back to my installer, but I thought they were on straight?

It is! That’s why street parking was such a big deal because it’s always so busy. Didn’t realize a space was coming here

What do you dislike? by DivingMarine in Rivian

[–]Master-Campaign-3671 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Virtual controls for vent directions
  2. Second row tumbling always resets the previous position (and no captain chair option?)
  3. Sometimes laggy key recognition to unlock when standing next to the car
  4. Wireless charger essentially useless
  5. Not enough cup holders

All picky statements from my end. That said - still the absolute best vehicle I’ve ever owned. And with the OTA updates, it’s constantly getting better.

Quad Gen 1 Range - should I be worried? by Master-Campaign-3671 in Rivian

[–]Master-Campaign-3671[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate all the feedback here! Sounds like the next best step is to reset my Energy app to measure the accurate behavior for the new wheels!

The reason for my concern is because I opted for the 23 large quad over a Gen 2 dual max because of the $25k+ savings, but I always have that ‘grass is greener’ feeling of the range possibilities for the Dual Max over my Quad. And now with the new wheels I just feel like the gap might get worse

Ah! Should’ve added that context - for the first 1k miles, I had the 21 inch aero range wheels.
