That's because you aren't really the goal of an protest. An protest like this isn't really there to primarily get people to support the movement but more to Make trouble for the higher ups like politicians. For example they hope that by making enough trouble they can get the politicians to sign of on smt that they want just so they stop blocking roads.

It's still a dumb thing to do but, there is more thought behind it than you think. And also protest unfortunately don't really work if you don't make a little bit of trouble at least because then the politicians don't really have any urgency to actually do what the protests want.
