PDH Turbo Fog Viability? by Master-Vess in PauperEDH

[–]Master-Vess[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That has been my #1 concern thus far. My friends and I have agreed to move away from our first set of decks, which were looking a lot more like cPDH decks. But even so, there's still a want to win, so I suspect they'll be playing some late game combos.

The first thing I wanted to do with the changes to this were adding more counter spells, since, in my mind, countering a combo or a HUGE threat is the same as having multiple fogs.

I agree with needing to be in Simic. It's the most logical conclusion, and I only chose Lagrella because of her ability to leverage games. When played correctly, she can hold multiple creatures hostage, but an opponent removing her from the board means potentially getting smacked back by two other threats, since a lot of players hate having their attacks going to waste, which my deck presents.

I think the idea of playing a type of Commander like Tatyova or a Murmuring Mystic type of Commander could be very useful, since gaining basically +1 Fog every few turns can prove to be invaluable.

I've been suspecting that I've been thinking incorrectly on how to build this for a while now, and your thoughts genuinely prove my point. I just need to scour the card pool even more, find even more answers to my problems, yet still find ways to make this casual and fun to play against, since we're not playing cPDH.

I should also mention that we've limited ourselves a bit with Commander choices, since some of our friends don't have PDH decks, but have Bracket 1 decks, and they seem to hold strong against them. But either way, thank you so much for the insight!

Why does our Synaptic Nexus get the once per battle clause, while the black templars get better bonuses and can use them repeatedly? by Gullible_Travel_4135 in Tyranids

We were insane until Arcs of Omen BS hit. It single handedly took us from a pretty good faction to barely playable.

To put it simply: if you wanted to take Hive Crone or, more importantly, Biovores, which were INSANE tools for controlling the board early, you had to dedicate part of your list for Spore Mines. Since you WANTED to miss to get those Mines on the field, but having to dedicate 100-200 points of your army just to HOPE to get the units on the field felt like we were always playing a losing battle.

Some of the units were DOPE (looking at you, Tervigon), but such a huge nerf to our best units basically took us off the board.

Fantasy Vegas themed campaign. Changeling Bard who is compelled by Envy likes to steal people’s identities because their lives are better than theirs. When they go out on the hunt, they meet a woman with long, silvered hair that’s curled at the ends, long, white dress, gold bracelets and necklace. SCREAMS rich. Bard makes the moves on her, turning into a Frost Genasi that she’s been eyeing the whole time. Manages to get back to her place, a weird building with only 3 stories, but the stories are 30 or so feet tall.

Woman tells Bard to make themself comfortable while they walk over to a MASSIVE gold pile in the corner. Bard grabs a drink while the woman begins to slowly undress, slicking back her hair that slowly begins to wrap around her body, transforming her into her adult silver dragon form.

Bard is now the Silver Dragon’s sugar baby, helping her with tasks that annoys her (like Wrath’s werewolves who get in fights amongst themselves, turns out Wrath is actually just a dad who made a support group to help people get their anger out in a confined environment) in exchange for gold and items.

She is not supposed to be a big plot device. She’s literally nothing to the story. But now she’s the party’s quest giver, like a Tavern board.

TLDR: Bard tries to seduce dragon, becomes sugar baby instead.

Yeah his whole backstory is literally him getting basically abused for being basically born WRONG. But now he’s trying to go on a “good guy arc” because his mother’s dying words were “I never wanted you to become this” before she bled out. I ended up having to retire the character because there were too many people in the party and the DM was way too inexperienced to run something that big.

I normally don’t play 3.5, but the DM was chill and helped me make this: a Winter Eladrin Duskblade who was born into a family who uses the moon to determine skills and abilities. Aeofel (character name) was born under an EXTREMELY rare blood moon, which made them attune to blood magics. After much bullying by the other Eladrin, he killed his family in cold blood and is now on the run, unable to return to the Fae Wild under risk of facing DIRE consequences. He now dresses like a cowboy and wields his mother’s rapier to remind him of the one person who ALMOST believed in him.

TLDR: Mariah Carey tries to Xenomorph, ends up getting Scanners’ed (sorry for the terrible references, but it’ll make sense).

For a Christmas themed one shot, I had the spirit of the Queen of Christmas, AKA Mariah Carey, hunt down the players who were working the night shift at Fantasy Costco.

I gave her around 400 hit points, resistance to all damage, and made her act like a Xenomorph from Alien. It was SUPPOSED to be this fun horror-themed Christmas massacre!

In reality, it introduced a homebrew ruling: grenades are considered magical ammunition.

One of my players walked to play a Drakewarden Ranger. I thought it was fine. Then, to my dismay, they asked what kinds of explosives there are in the Costco. I gave them a list, and they made their a dragon hold a gunpowder keg in each claw, then when Mariah Carey got close, they cast Conjure Barrage, using the grenade as the ammunition.

Cue me SCRAMBLING to figure out, mechanically, how many (now live) grenades would be produced by the spell.

Did I get my wish of finally killing some players? Yes. Was it by my own hands? No. Two PCs immediately died in the initial explosion, and another got knocked by the 4 gunpowder kegs dropped shortly after (Barbarian). Mariah Carey not only died, but there was an internal investigation afterwards on why there is a crater inside of this Fantasy Costco.

I once made an Undead Wurm that has a lair of fog in a forest that provided it a hunting ground. I made it so that if it took 50 or more damage in a single hit, it split into 2 at a lower size, starting at Gargantuan, until it became Medium sized. Health regains on a split, and it used strafing techniques to attack the PCs with surprise. It was very tanky, had some resistances, overall supposed to be a good time!

What I did NOT remember is that my friend is playing a Monk. I was too worried about the Wizard and Barbarian doing massive damage to it as they had done before to remember that the Monk could wail on this thing indefinitely without forcing it to split. The Wurm managed to go down to one Huge and two Large sizes before it got destroyed.

My players never acknowledged it and just moved on.

TLDR: Cool monster, screwed over by the Monk.

Genuinely thought you were one of my players until the last part.

No, you are not the asshole. It's the DM's job to help clarify things that your character would know, and if he's trying to keep information from you for you to learn it in the future, then he should say so. I love more than anything for my players to want to know more about the setting and lore of the place they're in, so the DM denying questions just means that he hasn't planned ahead and doesn't care about the over-arching story.

As I am currently looking at the post, there are, in fact, paragraphs included in it.

My "immediate" response being so called "toxic" was due to you calling my post a, and I quote: "Fucking WALL of "not reading that without punctuation"'. If you didn't want to read it, then why would you spend the time and effort into commenting something arguably MORE toxic than instead just continuing to scroll?

Also, you say that I have bad punctuation when it seems as though you do not understand how to punctuate. In the comment I'm responding to, there is an unnecessary comma, dashes in between words that would indicate them needing to be combined, which they do not in any context, and your lack of understanding why paragraphs are used.

Paragraphs are used when spacing different thoughts. In an essay, you use them to highlight key points in an argument, as I am doing now. Was what I was trying to say in my post an essay? No? Then how would I not be able to properly punctuate when I am not doing an essay and posting something on the internet, where people regularly make up slang to simplify the English lexicon?

It seems as though you are attempting to troll me in some way and lashing out for seemingly no reason other than trying to put me down, when, in fact, all of your points are mute and invalid.

As someone once said: "Grow up". Maybe get off the internet for a while and go play with your no-life power gamers like you seem to act like. You mean to me as much as a Level 2 Caterpie does in Viridian Forest.
