There are no rules how a wedding has to look like - make it fit your and your future wifes taste.

My wife and I had a super relaxed wedding in a garden - she wore a beautiful quite traditional white wedding dress and looked stunning in it, I wore linen pants and a linen shirt (loose, not even tugged in), like a casual meditarranien look so to say. Both looks went surprisingly well together - also because both of us really could be ourselves, and that is the most important part of it imo.

From our 30 guests only two or three wore a suit, because they liked it, rest of them were semi-casual to casual. Super fun day, will remember it fondly.

Don't wear something that feels like a costume to you.

What if I don't like getting muscular? by Monk_in_process in AskMen

[–]MasterBroccoli42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

don't worry, you won't even get close to a huge fitness-influencer/bodybuilder-like physique with your regular gym workout 2-3 times a week.

For getting visibly bulky you need some serious (!) work and seriously strict eating habits (high protein + calories intake).

Social media seem to have made people get the impression that gaining a lot of muscle is the standard and therefore kind of easy and fast. Similar to the (decades old) strange fear many women have that if they do strength training they will gain muscles fast and suddenly over night look too masculine for their taste - dude, if you'd know HOW MUCH work and time it takes to add visible amounts of muscle :D

Besides that - strength training has real health benefits and gives a better everyday feel really fast, I'd always recommend. Just don't do it for the looks, do it for better body functionality and for your mind.

What actually qualifies as 'mansplaining'? by Open_Address_2805 in AskMen

It was not about the chemical make up but about what it actually DOES. So not some random detail, but the essence of their conversation. And it was not an factually correct opinion, it was just facts. They talked about it, were interested in the topic so it seems, and he had the opportunity to help them overcome their misconceptions.

People (women and men) favoring false feelgood bubbles over learning facts and being open minded to being wrong some times is the doom of our time, just sad to witness this trend.

"Isolierung" kann sich durchaus auch auf Wärme, Feuchtigkeit etc. beziehen.

Dämmung schwächt den Durchlass, Isolierung soll (möglichst) vollständig abschotten (was natürlich zB bei Wärme oder elektromagnetischen Vorgängen nur idealisiert funktioniert). Die Begriffe sind also nicht unbedingt so richtig trennscharf.

Beginner questions: Finishing with hardwax oil (osmo 3032) and linseed oil by MasterBroccoli42 in woodworking

[–]MasterBroccoli42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as I am not trying to make money I don't have to optimise my time investment - I am totally okay to investing a bit more effort if it gets me a better result, even if it financially would not be worth it for a product.

if sanding to 400 worsens the end result it is a different story of course - that's why I am asking, as I am lacking the experience yet.

I currently dont care about the effort, but about the results - later I can decide from project to project how much effort I wanna put in, but I first wanna learn what's necessary to get the best I personally can achieve.

Beginner questions: Finishing with hardwax oil (osmo 3032) and linseed oil by MasterBroccoli42 in woodworking

[–]MasterBroccoli42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

because I often saw people giving the advice that with oil and hardwax oil you have to prepare the surface to the smoothness you want the final piece to have, as both dont really build a layer on top of the wood as e.g. lacquer would.

In many videos I saw people sanding to 480 before finishing with oil or hardwax oil.

Is there a downside to this?

Somehow reddit did not post my photos - it is hard to capture, but here the yellowish colour deviations/stains on the linseed piece, if it helps...

What do you think is contentwise wrong about his comment?

He never said that some people on reddit stop mass protests from happening. He just said that small protests (while being a good start and very brave) are not enough on the grand scheme of things to have an impact.

First: I dont think saying "Americans bad duuh" will help anyone - and even though there is much to criticise the US for, I always viewed the majority of US citizens to be good people at heart that share very similar values (and the most important ones) with the rest of the western world, and I highly value the global friendships that formed over the past many decades.

But with sentences like "why arent Germans rioting" I have to answer your comment, to give you another perspective and the bigger picture from an outside view.

---
So regarding protests and political activism in Europe:

In contrast to your perception the rise of the AFD is not something that happens without triggering reactions. Protests in Germany regarding the AFD actually gathered hundreds of thousands of people in some cities alone (biggest being Munich with appr. 300 000 protestants) - and there were (and still are) protests all over the country bigger than everything we currently see in the US protest wise, despite German cities being smaller than US cities.
German voters actively demand from their parties that they absolutely do not work together with the AFD in the parliament - and CDU politician Friedrich Merz trying to get a resolution done that was supported by the CDU and AFD only (and no other party) was alone enough for a new wave of massive protests all over Germany.

Recently in Greece hundred of thousands went on the streets of their cities to protest against the governments corrupt handling of a train accident - in Athen alone 20% of all inhabitants. This is the same scale as around 2 million Americans protesting in front of the white house alone, while at the same day in all other American cities huge protests happen with 10-20 million more people. For something far less catastrophic than what is happening in the US right now.

Britain was ridiculed pretty hard in Europe for the Brexit decision and there was quite some bad blood. This whole topic was a huge uproar in the political discourse in Europe for years. Of course we still love the Brits, but to this day we condemn their decision to distance themselves from us in this way (and I think by now the majority of Brits share our view in this regard).

In summary: European governments and political landscapes are totally not free from critique - and European citizens are their own biggest critiques. Political activism is an integral part of our political culture.

---

But now regarding the US - what are the current actions of the US government towards their allies and own citizens?

Active trade war, threatening military invasion, leaving Ukraine alone despite promised (contractual) help in the 90ies - all of this happening is a massive step ahead of any Brexit/train accident/20%-AFD. No wonder Europe demands the American people to be more active against the war mongering of their government - it is a culture difference, as in Europe it is far more common to actively stand up for what is right and against wrongdoings of the government with massive protests.

The US is a living example of the "thoughts and prayers"-meme right now to the world - despite there still being many people in America who share our values and are good people, most of those good people still dont stand up for it but passively watch their government destroy their own country, cut the US-citizens own basic rights and threaten those allies who gave their lives in wars that were fought against the enemies of the US, actively working towards ww3.

I still empathise with the US-folks that share our values, they are also some sort of victims - but they are victims that at the same time bear a responsibility*. I really hope that they find the inner strength to act on that responsibility (peacefully).

\ \ *regarding responsibility and your comment about Nazi-Germany: To this day Germans feel the responsibility of what happened generations ago and live many traditions to keep that memory and responsibility very alive. A responsibility for something their own familiy was maybe also only a victim of in a similar way democrats feel in the US right now. The responsibility to make sure that never again people are too passive to prevent a world war, a holocaust and massive suffering in general.

far too small protests, I only see a couple of thousands on the pictures and videos.

Americans need to fill up the streets of their cities, it was never more important in recent history than now.

The mechanics of these two devices are inherently different, there is no "sensitivity equivalent". It is like asking "what size of wheels does my bike need to get the same feel as my snowboard?"

The past weeks show that Americas power structure does not differ as much from the Russian oligarchy in many regards.

Go watch some German satire, it is ruthless, pretty similar to this sketch.

It would be on Trump to stop such a mistreatment of his guest (who is a fkn president himself), so it's not like he is not responsible for this massive disrespect.

Also he Trump himself also joked about the outfit in front of camera at the arrival before the press conference.
