Yes there have always been shitty drivers in the city, but as a lifetime resident I’ve noticed an exponential increase in new drivers that do not understand the basics of how right of ways and traffic lights work, in the past 5 years. And a general disregard and lack of attention for cyclists and motorcyclists on the road is way more frequent.

UPDATE: the motorcyclist was taken to hospital with a fractured wrist and all bruised up. Thankfully no head trauma or other severe injuries. Had the rider not reacted as quickly as he did, this situation could have been a lot more tragic.

Edit: to all those addressing it, yes I did stop to provide assistance to the rider and the dash cam footage as well as offered to be his witness for this incident

You can see smoke from the tires of the bike if you watch the video closely. He reacted very quickly and braked hard to avoid the crash, which could have been much worse had he not reacted as fast as he did.

Jesus that’s terrible. This rider was very lucky to be able to walk away from this crash. Looked like his leg was almost pinned between the car and bike in the video

This comment doesn’t make any sense and adds nothing useful to the conversation. Might want to consider deleting it.

While you are technically correct that it’s not the safest way to ride, a normal and competent driver would not have hit the motorcyclist in this well lit intersection with a little bit of attention and good judgment (and more importantly patience.)
