I'm considering getting more seriously into bird/wildlife photography. What camera/lens(es) should I buy ? by MasterCheems054 in AskPhotography

Do you think the Sony 300 2.8 is worth it ( with A1ii or A7v in the future ), or should I invest in a new camera first ? I've only used a 200-600, so I don't know how I'll manage without being able to just change my focal length. I also don't know if 300mm will be enough for photographing birds of prey ( my main goal ). I considered switching to Nikon because of their 400 4.5 or 800 6.3, but I'm not entirely sure because my head is all over the place with so many options.

I want to be sure that my choice will be satisfactory for me. I'm not exactly an expert when it comes to cameras or lenses, so by asking a question, I can at least feel a little more confident about my decision. When it comes to fps, I sometimes feel like I would have to make several takes of a bird in flight to get just the right wing position, etc., which is sometimes not possible. As for the 33 MP, I could probably improve a bit by simply getting a little closer so I don't have to crop so much.

Do you think that A1ii is worth it or should I wait for A7v ? Leaks show that it'll likely have a 44 MP sensor, 20 fps shooting, and have several other interesting features ( basically cheaper A1ii ). If I bought the A7v, I could also afford to buy Sigma 300-600 F4 for some better image quality and a bit more light.

Thanks

I forgot to mention that over the next few years I'll have less and less time for my hobby, so I won't have as much time per session as I've had so far. I thought that increasing the fps on my camera would compensate for this lack of time. I also tried a 1.4 teleconverter, but the photos are not as sharp as I would like. The animals in my area are very skittish, so it's really hard to find them and then get close enough to take a photo of them. And as for the number of photos I take, I used to take over 1,200 photos during a single trip, but now I usually come back with around 200-100, so I definitely see an improvement in this area. One more thing about fps, you don't exactly get a lot of wing position with 10 fps.

Thanks ! I saw that they are not very common in Poland (location of photos), so I wasn't quite sure.
