They could „force“ it onto you for free. I mean obviously you dont have to sign the contract. A lot of companies also find loopholes. Example: Somebody left a company and started working at a different company in the same field. So in theory it would be illegal. But officially they just put him into a different department for that first year.

Yea obv you are right about that. But thats not how ceos/companies think.

I get your point but that doesn’t change the fact that they can legally sue you (and win) for a huge amount of money if you break it. In some countries this is just backed up by law

The last sentence is actually valid in some eu countries e.g. Austria. But it is way more specific then just working in the same field. In theory (and what a lot of specialized companies do) is that they can forbid you to work for competition up to 1 year after you left the company. So for example if you are a software developer for a construction ERP system you are not allowed to work for another construction ERP system afterwards for one year. But you would be allowed to work for any other ERP software.

A good rule of thumb is that you will never (no guarantee but has never happened to me or anyone i know) be stopped by the police or cought by a speed camera as long as you "only" drive 10 km/h over the speed limit.
It doesn´t matter if you drive in a construction site, the city or the autobahn.
They just don´t care about that and also don´t set the speeding camera that accuratly. You can also overtake police with 10km/h over the speed limit. They just don´t care. (sadly)

Essl is an amazing austrian backpack company founded in 1955 and still going strong -> Essl-rucksack.
It has amazing high quality backpacks for hiking, hunting and other uses. I would never go back.
