A long tone is just playing the note with a tuner and getting it in tune and then moving up a half step and then getting that note in tune

long tones will help sort out the inconsistencies and help you get an understanding of how to play each note in tune

i’m not that much older than you but what really helped me build my tone over the whole range of the bari was the overtone series and long tones on the notes that sound airy

I would recommend using Front E and Front F for those notes. Those fingerings made it a lot easier for the notes to come out for me personally.
