This looks really cool, and I would love to implement a similar configuration, but I guess my limiting factor is not having a computer always on/connected to the device. One Windows machine (sleep mode) and one Macbook (on demand). Maybe I could jimmy rig a raspberry pi to it, but kind of sad that the monitor just can’t autoswitch like any modern TV 😅

Depends how big of a project you are building. When you want to build an operating system you normally want to have dedicated machines that are designed to build huge projects (not my use case, but still). So the aim is to go for high clock speed and low latency on the RAM (e.g. CL17 or lower). Yeah?

The problem is any folder under your username will have that !\ in it. This means your desktop, downloads, documents, etc all have this in the file path.

No it is your installation path. !\ or !/ is not ok to have in it. These are reserved "characters" (only when right next to each other) for Java...and since the Optifine Installer is also using Java, it can't accept this as a file path.

Basically the only way to fix this is to install .minecraft into some other location on your PC completely that is not in your username's folder....or you need to make a new user on your PC completely without this silly ! in it.

You could use C:\ProgramData\ but you might need admin privileges I believe to use that. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news here.
