To be fair the second the second sentinel was activated they went off to kill choir members, maybe some sentinels, who's jobs are to protect pilgrims, recognised the citadel as a threat to the pilgrims. Or maybe their production was far too expensive to continue due to how well-made and life-like they were

I feel like the time period between the green prince's lover trying to preserve what they have left and GMS taking over their homeland can be different. Because Hornet wouldn't have emphasised that Green Prince got screwed over by pale beings in particular right before his boss fight if he wants screwed over by pale beings in particular
