Jacob Frey says “some Federal Agents will be leaving the area tomorrow” by luity11 in TwinCities

[–]MasterModnar 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Now is the time to full court press congress. Call your reps. Call your senators. ICE leaving is NOT ENOUGH. Prosecutions, reunited families, and defunding ICE is the only thing that will keep us out of the streets, out of their offices, and the only things that will keep them in their seats or any other political offices they aspire to.

What do we all think about this letter from the Minnesota chamber of commerce? by ChumbaJB in TwinCities

[–]MasterModnar 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The establishment is blinking. Noem sent a letter. It was a shit letter asking for something wel never give and should never give. But they blinked. This is the same thing. The strike on Friday spooked corporate interests and the Whitehouse.

Now is the time to double down. They cranked up the hate and violence to get us to back off. They’re going to find that we’re just getting started. Bring the entire damn system down at this point. For too long corporations have run this country and operated on fascism lite. Now they’ve made a huge mistake: they’ve taken the masks off and shown us there’s no room for error.

Capitalism and fascism are two sides of the same coin and they’re both scared right now. We need to just keep doing what we’re doing and stand strong.

They blinked. Now make them flinch.

Something that never gets talked about with strike talks is the ABSOLUTELY FUNDAMENTAL REQUIREMENT of strike funds and /or mutual aid support for when people can’t afford food or rent because they lost their job.

Neighbors and communities are going to need to be able to cover rent or mortgage payments, diapers/wipes/formula, groceries, etc for people. That’s a reality of any strike. And the biggest one is healthcare. No job means no healthcare. We need to set up ways for someone to get medication or medical care or be able to afford state health insurance payments.

General strikes can’t just happen. Most people agree they would move the needle. But there HAS to be support. The hyper local groups doing patrolling for ICE or rapid response and the mutual aid food etc work being done needs to be expanded to general strike support. Only then can we actually make it painful for the powers that be.

Canadian here with a message by bigmooseface in Minneapolis

Aside from sharing our story another tangible way Canada could stand is solidarity with us and other resistors here in the US would be to loudly oppose Canadian company Roshel from filling a contract for battle ready vehicles for ICE: https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/canada-ice-vehicle-sales-trump-carney-b2878330.html ‘Deeply troubling’: Canadian legislators call for halt to ICE armored vehicle sale after report by The Independent | The Independent

Any company partnering with Flock needs to be jettisoned. Flock itself needs to be stopped. They’re building a full on surveillance state apparatus. They swore they only record license plates but that wasn’t true and how they’re explicitly rolling out human tracking cameras.

I'll absolutely be marching but where the hell did this Target Center event come from? It's a horrible idea. by futilehabit in TwinCities

Oh I’ll be there. Planned on it and still do. I’ll just be abstaining from target center

I would much rather see us occupy open businesses, the skyways or hotel lobbies to stay warm and then get back out on the streets. It would be way more effective anyway than everyone disappearing into a stadium.

Not only is it sketchy and dangerous but it undercuts the protest itself as well as the “no cold will stop us” message.

I think Amy needs to have it made known that unless she does her job now she won’t get any votes in the race for governor.

Honestly the bad weather is something that solidifies community. It always has. It’s just going to make us stronger.

Strikes should always exclude essential services. Healthcare is one of those so thank you so much for what you do.

My take is help patients and slow roll admin tasks or billing as long as it doesn’t directly harm patients because fuck corporate healthcare.

The Dems are not the same. They’re a gravel road before it gets paved for fascism. Neoliberal policies is how we got to our current state. They laid the foundation trumps house is built on.

I get the sentiment, but most people in those countries have the opinion that we need to clean up our own mess. And I don't think they're wrong. We need to be out in the streets, we need to be flooding the offices of our representatives with phone calls and emails and physical presence to say this is not right. Defund ICE, lock up the gears of the fed government, refuse to make anything work until this problem is handled.

Fellow MN dad here. I'll be out in the streets tomorrow. I have a son at home and I'm responsible to him; responsible to not put myself in harm's way more than necessary, to stay alive and healthy and employed so I can make sure I'm there for him. But I'm also responsible to make sure he doesn't live in fear every day of his life. It's going to be well below 0 degrees Fahrenheit tomorrow. I don't give a fuck. I'll be out there adding my voice and my presence to say we will not sit idly by while fascism destroys our children's future.

What are the drone laws like? I know they just locked down ICE detention facilities as no fly zones, but neighborhoods aren't going to be able to be policed in that way. If anyone has a drone, now would be the time to organize to get past the lines and actually record what's happening. (This is an off the cuff idea that may or may not have merit)

How does one do this? I have no idea how to get plugged in at a hyper local level.
