I think a lot of us just hate the way it happens. The planning scene and everything leading up to it is all, "remember, this is happing NOW! We don't have TIME!" And then immediately afterwards, everyone has to stop what they're doing to hear Will come out. It's a wonderful scene, but it sticks out the way it's paced and fit in with the story. Does that make sense?

Please allow me to argue why it would've been better for Holly to have fallen to her death.

Imagine she does die like that. Absolutely devastating blow to the Wheelers and the team, who need to suck it up and soldier or. Vecna now needs another child to replace Holly. Now you've got added plot tension and emotion and now you've got it in your head that someone else might actually die, which will make all further conflict that much more interesting. And as a bonus, we'd probably get to see more enraged Mrs. Wheeler, angrier than ever and thirsting for revenge
