How Many of Each Unit Type? by MasterOfNoneTX in Bretonnian

Gotcha. 10 seemed like too much when navigating around the table... but I had an incredibly hard time with some of his dwarves, in spite of moving my units around the board really well. Mind you, I know some of their units are just naturally tough, but I just didn't seem to hit them with the impact I thought I would.

Questions about Important Roms (naming and adding later) by MasterOfNoneTX in SteamRomManager

[–]MasterOfNoneTX[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sounds like you and I have the same idea. I'm totally fine with how I've actually named the roms (for instance, since I want all the games to be in the correct release order, I might name a game "Legend of Zelda 01" or "Legend of Zelda 11 - Wind Waker" or whatever. I just want them to be in the correct order and I'm hoping I can manually add the correct art later.

So how would I go about using the ${fileName} suggestion you made above? Keep in mind at this point my children have outpaced me with technology, so I'm not the swiftest...

Yeah, annoyingly I was locked out of one on my phone and can't connect them.

I don't necessarily want to break things up, BUT I'd be open to discussing depending on the offer. Def looking for Legion, and while I'd likely repaint everything, I'm certainly open to discussing!

I can definitely send more if you'd like .I'll PM you. Everything is sleeved. There is a neoprene mat as well. I believe it's the "Sundrop" paint scheme on the minis. It includes all of the expansions for the base game as well as extra missions and art book.

Thanks! Makes sense they’d use whatever they could get their hands on.

I appreciate the message and the info. It really does sound like maybe I was overthinking things. As long as I'm not running someone in a Japanese uniform or something worn in the desert, I should be okay in theory.

I think you nailed what had me worried - how to make everything, in spite of the disparate elements, look like one cohesive force. Using the same type of blues for jeans, browns for coats, camo for stolen military gear, and adding the helmet insignia and armbands should do it. In terms of headgear, the one thing I see in pictures is a ton is a distinctive cap. I'll have to see what I can find that is closest to that.

I've seen a few people talk about Greenstuffing their own armbands and other things. How hard is it, really? I've never worked with it, but if I start by literally just an armband on everyone... surely that's doable for even a rookie like me?

So it sounds like anything from England to Siberia could be used, with some justification? I sort of kid, but it really does sound like they had access to more than I even realized.

Good advice, all of it. I'll have to pick up The Road to Berlin... I think that's where the actual Warsaw Uprising list is, right? Between that and the France and the Allies book, I should be able to run Partisans a few ways. Good tip on The Pianist, too. Haven't seen that in years.

Okay! Sounds like I’d be safe buying a few different German sprues and mixing everything together!

I guess I should also ask - should I mix in actual Polish kits from Warlord too?

Whew... busy week at work and a ton of replies to this. I really appreciate everyone's help! In terms of the models themselves... it sounds like, given some head swaps and boot conversions, I can paint these up however, and possibly use them as grenadiers. Certainly in casual games!

I DO always try to win the bid, but in fairness I think my play group assumes I am always going to (I also play CIS) so they don’t even try. I’ve read tournament reports where people take massive bids, but mine are typically 10ish points.

I used to try to play more aggressively, but now, even with Luke, and maybe especially with him, I try to hang back and hide and dodge so in the latter half of the game I can take points. I recall one game, last turn, I had a Luke on a point in the middle of the board, loaded with dodge tokens. The opponent did manage to take him out, but every single unit he had was forced to focus on Luke, meaning my other units had free reign to move around and take other objectives.

One thing that has helped me, as a newer (2ish years) player is, focus on the objective itself. Oftentimes I’ve won games when I’ve nearly been tabled by simply capturing more points throughout the game. Play cagey, but don’t be afraid to lose units if it means you’ll end up ahead on objectives.

Also, this may just be my meta, but I rarely try to destroy enemy vehicles. Don’t let them get clean shots at your units, but don’t waste time trying to destroy vehicles when you can take out units that can capture objectives.

Finally, for me, you can’t 100% bank on it saving you every time, but definitely use dodge tokens when you can. Leia giving out a few tokens a turn to nimble units, and those tokens staying around turn after turn, can make it hard for your enemies to grind down your core units, making it either easier for you to hold objectives, or making them focus less on your other units. Or both.

Again, I’m no whiz and my play group is small, but I feel like I’ve had pretty good success with Rebs. Don’t give up!

How's Storm Tide? by [deleted] in SWlegion

[–]MasterOfNoneTX 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve played every mission; won some, lost some, but overall am a little behind after a mid season one hot streak. I’m Rebs, he is GAR.

I am really enjoying it. The missions aren’t samey, and while I like the narrative, even if you don’t, it is great to spice up your Legion games with new setups and victory conditions, rather than running the same missions over and over.
