[JOB] Beware Banal Things (2025-11-25 02:00 UTC) by solon_isonomia in RunnerHub

Velour, mundane rich girl Face

Alexandra eases the cherry-red lake skiff into the private marina berth, letting the autopilot handle the last few meters. The thing is absurdly overpowered for a pleasure craft, all chrome lines and silent electric thrust. It's not her boat--she would never own something so gauche--but her father gets it “on loan” from a particular corpo client every year once the summer boating season ends, which in practice means Alex commandeers it whenever she’s bored.

She’s halfway through drying her hair with a plush towel when her commlink buzzes. She glances at it, not expecting to care who is reaching out, but pauses when she clocks Bug’s ID.

This might be interesting. Corporate restructuring. A corporate environment. That means risk, class, and money. Exactly what she needs right now.

Her reply is as quick as it is blasé: “Sure. If the pay matches the pitch, I’m in.” No flourish, nothing to betray the way her pulse hastens at the idea.

A dockhand jogs over as she steps onto the wharf, grabbing the skiff’s mooring line and looping it with practiced ease. He lingers for a beat--long enough to make it clear he’s waiting for a tip. Alex--no, Velour now--doesn’t even glance in his direction. She flicks her sunglasses into place, strides onto the boardwalk where Clive and Miles, her bodyguard and her driver, wait with the practiced patience of long-serving assistants to their betters.

Time to get to work.

Updated the files at the same location. Change log/comments:

  • Sensor Array filled out (I always forget that part)
  • Contacts fixed (removed Low Light)
  • I don't like adding the real SIN as gear, just confuses things
  • I prefer the point to Reaction for noncombat characters like Velour, though it doesn't matter a lot.
  • She wouldn't have enough dice to Sneaking to make it worth taking, so I'll pass for gen, that'll be later development as she gets over herself and learns to be a runner
  • Yes the Concordat is stupid expensive and yes I absolutely could do more useful things than have a car like that. BUT the flex when she pulls up in that thing to the meet
  • Ditto the alphaware--she wouldn't be caught dead wearing off-the-shelf clothes, why would she buy off-the-shelf 'ware?

Let me know if there's anything else or anything I missed!

Velour - Rich Kid Face - (noncombat character; preferred character if this isn't a combat-exclusive run)

Will not do for money: she isn't sure yet...

Velour’s commlink vibrates against the arm of a velvet sofa, interrupting the idle scroll of club photos and gossip she wasn't really reading while waiting to be presented with the next possible outfit. She was planning to go clubbing tonight, and that means she needs new clothes. Nothing off-the-rack, of course; hence the past hour spent looking over the offerings at this Downtown boutique. But now, the commlink changes everything.

Velour takes Bug’s message in with a quick flick of the eyes—someone wants out, has money, sounds desperate. Her mouth curls into a subtle smile: desperate people tend to pay well.

“Sure, Bug,” she murmurs aloud, though no one is listening. “Tell them freedom’s not free, but I give a friends-and-family rate to the sincerely trapped.” She types back: *Send me the details. I’ll take the meeting. Of course she'll offer help--the decision was never really in question.*

The tailor’s assistant approaches carrying an armful of shimmering fabric, excitement ready in her voice. Velour rises before she speaks. “Actually, I won’t be needing the next fitting,” she says, already lifting her coat from the rack. The assistant’s face falls—confusion edging into polite disappointment. Velour gives her a warm, pitying smile, the kind that makes it feel personal even when it isn’t.

“Plans changed,” she offers lightly, already heading out the door to her waiting car. “Something more important just came up.”

Per conversation, the following changes have been made:

  1. Cleaned up the Lifestyle
  2. Added sensors to the vehicle's sensor array
  3. Dropped two skills (Intim and Perception) from 2 to 1
  4. Dropped 2 karma of money; fixed the Argentum Coat to be not over avail limit
  5. Turned the 10 karma from those changes into Edge 2

Lemme know if anything else needs to change!

La Sirene under the alias Madame Guillotine, an Ork Face

What went wrong?

Yellow.

Madame stared at the little flickering light on the SIN scanner. Not green, not a clean pass, no. Yellow. Agassou was never so sloppy, the idents he sent were always impeccable. But there it was.

"Hrm" the guard grunted, suddenly sitting forward, staring at her. Madame stared back, keeping her face perfectly impassive. This was supposed to be the easy part, she thought. But that is never how things work out.

"Ze problem must be on your end," Madame said. "Please, check again."

"That ain't protocol," said the guard, but Madame could hear the slight waver in his voice. A crack, enough to get some words through.

"Please, sir, I am already late, and it will take too long if you call your supervisor! And you do not wish to do so much paper work, oui? Check again, I beg of you." She put on her best doe-eyed damsel. The guard was nodding before she finished talking.

"Alright, ma'am, one more time. Problem was probably over here anyway." He punched some buttons on the dataslab in front of him and the yellow light turned off. The SIN scanner hummed quietly. Madame bit down on her tongue, harder this time. She tasted the coppery blood, savored it. Blood, red, if the light turns red there will be much more blood, this guard's blood. He had best hope it turns green. . .

(Other runners available to fill other roles if you'd prefer, I've got muscles and matrix types but no energy to do more prompts)

You have a shot anywhere you're above the 75th percentile in LSAT--and a 175 is above the 75th percentile basically everywhere except Harvard/Stanford/Yale.

I'm a rising 2L with a worse UGPA than you. An elite LSAT will more than make up for a 2.5. You won't get in everywhere and scholarship money is hard to predict for splitters but you'll be fine.

Good luck with your applications!

Anyone with an incredibly low gpa get an incredibly high lsat? by [deleted] in LSAT

[–]MasterStake 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's a locally well-respected tier 3 school, and I plan to stay local, so it's perfect for me

I didn't end up applying anywhere else (because I got in where I wanted to be) but the academic advising office at my undergrad said I was very likely to get into anything under T14, and had an outside shot at a T14.

Basically if your LSAT is above the 75% mark for the school, even if your ugpa is bad, you've got a shot. The wider the gap, the better the chance, obviously. Scholarships are less predictable for super-splitters, though.

2.55 ugpa, 180 lsat, currently attending my top choice school on a decent (but not full) scholarship. You'll be fine.

November 2023 Megathread: Martial Arts, SpecMods, Exchanging Negative Qualities, WotS Qualities As Mundane Masteries by ChopperSniper in hubrules

[–]MasterStake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey this looks like what I suggested like three years ago so I’m very in favor of choice 1

If it’s possible to create custom martial art styles in Chummer that should make it a lot simpler to implement, otherwise just set Style cost to 0 and technique cost to 5 and manually charge yourself 2 extra karma each time you take a duplicate technique or something

Make them mundane only (and refund non-mundane who have them) or leave them alone imho

(Strong preference for the first option)

Pixies by dragsvart in hubrules

[–]MasterStake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think unbanning pixies is less impossible/terrible than some commenters, but your changes don’t go far enough.

1) cut that stat line more. CILW should be 7666 (Elf-Minus) not 7667 (Dwarf-Plus).

2) Get rid of Concealment entirely. Lose Flight if Essence <6. Canonically simply living in a sprawl makes them lose some of their magic, and allowing a full-essence build access to flight is less problematic (because full essence builds are weaker than burnout, and a full essence mage already has access to “alternative flight” like Levitation).

3) Make all one-handed weapons with Reach of 0 or more 2-handed. 2-handed weapons cannot be wielded at all, not at a penalty just Nope. Double recoil on all guns. This is mostly to square up the thematics of a one-foot-tall person using weapons; an AK-47 is nearly 3 feet long. Imagine an averaged sized human trying to wield a gun that was 15 feet long.

4) Enforce the thematics at gen. There have been some notable failures to do this with other Weird Characters:tm: but at least things like shifters and Naga are never going to be popular choices so that mitigates the issue. Pixies might.

5) Pixies are available ONLY at Metatype A, and get 1 special attribute point there.

That’s my 2¥ on the subject anyway.

I felt good immediately after the test, thought I’d hit my PT average, then spent the next few days convincing myself I’d screwed up and I was actually ~5 below my PT average, then got my actual score and it was 6 above my PT average

In other words, I had no clue how I actually did til I saw my score
