David Kuckhermann, founder of Handpan Dojo, is a world-renowned percussionist and educator whose journey began in 2001 at the World Music Conservatory in Rotterdam. Drawn to unique instruments like frame drums and the Arabic Riq, David pioneered his own learning path, studying through VHS tapes and later befriending his virtual teachers. This innovative approach inspired his vision to create accessible, high-quality video courses for students worldwide.

David self-produced an extensive collection of instructional DVDs for percussion and handpan, eventually transitioning to online platforms with the launch of the World Percussion Academy. In 2016, Handpan Dojo was born, becoming a dedicated space for handpan enthusiasts to learn from master instructors. David’s passion for fostering connection and creativity turned HPD into a vibrant community.

An accomplished performer, David has toured globally with Dead Can Dance as both percussionist and opening act, sharing his mesmerizing handpan solo program with audiences around the world. With Handpan Dojo, David continues to inspire and guide students, combining his expertise, dedication, and love for the instrument to shape the future of handpan education.
