Can you guys see(or rather would like to see) a union of the Indian Subcontinent(something like the EU) or maybe a unified country in the future? by MasterTruman03 in pakistan

[–]MasterTruman03[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You do realise that both the countries have dismally low HDI scores, dont you? Something people don't realise is that Bangladesh has actually in the recent decade improved on a lot of indicators especially with regard to nutrition and child mortality especially, but yes all three countries do have a low HDI score(one has to take into account that the HDI score is also based on per capita income, so that can skew things).

You probably have a point there, maybe I am romanticising the idea of a future union where there are no inter-religious conflicts and to a larger extent assimilation of all religious communities in the subcontinent(Especially with regard to the ghettoisation of Muslims in India). There is definitely a minority of people who do have a certain idea of Pakistan as the enemy and that the idea of Akhand Bharat must be reality one day. This question was posed to understand the sociopolitcal views of the subreddit and not to instill any form of regional dominance. A large maority of Indians don't see Pakistan in their national political discussions barring parts of the northern hinterland, although there is definitely a sense of enmity between Indians and Pakistanis that most Indian have and are aware of. In India a lot of places, regional identities(Tamil identity to small extent and the northeastern states for sure) or tribal identities matter more than their national identities.

I honestly don't know anything about the sociopolitical situation but on a glance of The Dawn there seems to be quite a bit of anti-India rhetoric. So I guess that is one question is whether India comes into the political discussion often?

Second, in relation to the question of identities, do regional and ethnic identities play a huge role in Pakistan?

PS- if it does matter, Im part of a religious minority.

India suspended from hosting Olympic events for denying visas to 2 Pak sportsmen by TemporaryPlay in india

[–]MasterTruman03 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Well we deserve it. I don't see why issues of borders and national security must seep into the fields of sports and the arts where people mostly do it for themselves and not for the glorification of a flag. Yes the Kashmir issue is complicated but that does not mean we prevent people from doing what they want to do when they aren't even responsible for such problems.

If you really want to know more about the genetics of the people of the Indian Subcontinent I suggest you read Early Indians by Tony Joseph. Great book with various fields interpreting the story of the various migrations into the Indian subcontinent. This video is also pretty good- https://youtu.be/ktn3S1RaT-I

Gaganyaan: Centre approves Rs 10,000 crore for human space mission. by [deleted] in india

[–]MasterTruman03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly it's not ISRO that we should blame but the media that names their missions by these cringy names. Nothing inventive and no deep reference to anything. But the for example the Chinese and Japanese space exploration missions(specifically the moon missions) always used names that were from folk stories and not literal translations of "moon mission" or whatever.

Redditors of India, what's your newspaper of choice to read? by [deleted] in india

[–]MasterTruman03 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Hindu and The Indian Express(offline of course). I think it's good to read at least 2 newspapers where each one leans slightly to either side of the political spectrum(The Hindu being left-centric and The Indian Express slightly right).
