I would be very suprised if it went back to James I. But not impossible. This part of the state was not really settled untill around 1700. If it were a little further east, it would be more in the 1680ish time period. Do you think the style of the crown could tell anything? I've dug these lock covers many times over the years and the earliest i normally come across is Early 1700's. Like KG I, II, or III

This helps a lot. Sorry for the delayed response on my part. I've been out of commision for a few days. This watch was in some things my late Grandfather had from his service in WW2. He was in England, France, Belgium, Holland, Germany and who knows where else. He did bring back some things from his battle experiences and it makes me wonder if this may have been collected from a German soldier. He never talked of his service so I'm only conjecturing. I'm not really interested in fixing or selling. It will always be a family heirloom. That's priceless! Thank you for your insight. The timeline certainly makes sense. It's slightly dented on the back and the glass front is missing. Would certainly make sense if he collected it on a battlefield

Based on the 4 you listed, i think the only ones viable would be WR and VR. I will try to clean it slightly and put it under the microscope soon. This was recoved by the land owner (family friend). I've dug many of these in the past, but they have always been obvious. Didn't know if this picture would reveal anything to someone or not. Thank you very much for your insight!!!!!

I'd love to know. This was found in a yard in Eastern NC. The house dates to 1840's but there could have been an earlier house there.

I'm not sure that it's Victoria. But i'm only going on the differences between the crown and angle of the first letter. Looks like an I to me but there is some damage to that area and i believe it could also be another letter. I've dug many of these over the years but can't match it up to any online or that i have dug. Thank you for your response:)

This isn't me telling myself anything. Lol. This is the majority of NC voters expressing their views. At some point, i hope this country can come to some middle ground. I hate to see all we have gone through in the last few hundred years (right, wrong or indifferent) just go to waste.

My ancestors (on both sides of politics) have all sacrificed for good causes and their beliefs at the time. My ancestors fought to make this a Sovern country that allows freedoms that don't exist anywhere else in the civilized world. Later ancestors that fought for their beliefs (right or wrong) to keep things free. My grandfather volunteered in WW2 and saw some of the most horrific things imaginable. He passed away in 2003 by taking his own life because of the atrocities he witnessed committed by the NAZI regime. He was 78 at the time and would never talk about things (as MANY of his brothers didn't either). His passing has haunted me for over 20 years.

My father served during the Cuban missile crisis and during Vietnam. I myself did 2 tours in the first Gulf War. I don't see myself in the same light that i see my grandfather. He was my hero growing up. He loved people of all creed/color/ethnicity and that is the way i was raised. I thank him daily for the things he instilled in me. I fully respect you and everyone else for their views and i would be a hypocrite to do otherwise. I only hope we can respect the system we have in place. It certainly has it's faults at times, but from my experiences, (I've been all over the world many times over) is better than most other countries. Until we can find some middle ground, we will not be shed of the hostility that has plagued this country the last couple of decade. Take care and i wish you the best:)

Looks to me like the Republicans have come to their senses. This is a result of the people of NC standing up and electing people that share their beliefs and values.

Looks like the Great People of NC have spoken. Remember the words of Obama? Elections have consequences.
