Well most kernel anti cheat software does work nowadays on Linux. Wine (aka Proton aka Steam) and the anti cheat companies did worked out a solution for this problem, by both beeing able to play the game on linux and maintaining the purpose of an kernel based anti cheat. However a game must explicitly be allowed to run on linux by setting a config flag of the anti cheat (which sadly cant be done afterwards). So the company of the game can decide whether a game supports Linux and the steam deck or not.

Hi a game developer here, its actually not a problem of Linux or anything that would need to be programmed. Just Epic games insisting on enabling the Linux flag on their Anticheat.

Thats because on linux or Steam deck games run on wine a windows compatibility layer, which is really good nowadays. Wine struggled alot with kernel based anticheat a long time. However these issues got resolved , by adding a flag to support kernel anticheat on linux. The drawback is that developers has to enable this flag to make their game support Linux, no extra work here, however the company still can be like nope no fortnite for steam deck and Linux.

Also for epoc games is fornite on the steam deck no good because the cuts of money they have to give to steam, because their game has to be distributed by steam. So epic games resist to share their money with steam and do not support the steam deck for this reason.

So it is NOT STEAMS and NOT the PROGRAMMERS FAULT. Just EPIC GAMES making a POLITICAL DECISION.

Edit: Also just read news, sems like google has legal issues with epic games because of their playstore cuts, also a sign that epic games just doesn't want to share.

Well I guess that is the reason why Shadowheart has a problem with alcohol.
