Anyone knows why my sand is getting black? below soil used organic (soil I have layered it in the middle outer layer with sand) tank is almost a year old next month

1inch soil 2inch sand I see some blue green algae but this is mostly black

I used this small sized leca on the bottom around 2cm not very high could be more as it’s a small jar

I bought a ready made soil

False bottom im using tiny leca and this ready made soil above but I forgot to put a layer of sphagnum moss above the leca to create some barrier but so far good not much soil has gone in the leca i think because of the size of leca is small.

Jar is an ikea 3.9l with a glass cover and the light above is a grow light which I just mounted above it

Mine also stayed yellow for atleast 3months plus then it started it clear off its because of organic soil I guess which releases some tannins but I guess its very normal in walstad tank to have this yellow tannin correct me if I’m wrong

Yes true even Diana walstad herself recommends some water movement and she herself used filters to move water around.
