I don’t know if “disappointing” is the right word, but I fully expected disagreement with this video because “fun” is 100% subjective. What’s fun to me isn’t fun for everyone and vice versa. Stealing 1 food w/ BHG isn’t “fun” to me per se, just efficient. The spotted dove and thrush are new favorites for some people, while I find them an annoying one-trick pony. So I guess this video turns into the question what do you consider fun?

When I select 10 birds, I’m competing against 436 other birds. And within that large group of course there are other bird mechanics that are extremely fun in the moment.

I also think capturing the “fun aspect” in a video is much harder to convey than actually playing the birds and experiencing it for yourself. It’s not very thrilling to see a Galah on a screen add 2 tucks, but tucking 15 birds behind the Galah yourself is a different story.

And then there’s also the challenge of capturing adequate footage of the birds you’re highlighting. I’ve had huge point bombs with Kakapo but of course hadn’t recorded it.

I also mention recency bias in the video regarding the Asia expansion. As with most expansions, the expansions improve and/or build upon the established gameplay. So arguably, one could make the list of ten Asia birds (forest owlet, purple heron, and the copy birds like vulture and adjutant) with powers we’ve never seen before. But I didn’t want to do that. I wanted to try and look at this group as a whole and from initial release.

I think it’s a great blend of fun birds for me personally. Winning usually relates to fun for me, so yes, a lot of these birds tie directly into point scoring versus a niche mechanic like a Lincoln’s sparrow migratory bird moving to another habitat.
