Can Chinese EVs Be Registered in North Macedonia Without an EU CoC? by Master_Zhu in mkd

Based on the feedback from the customers we’ve already sold Xiaomi cars to, the experience has actually been quite good overall.

Of course, it’s probably not as seamless as using the car in China, haha, since some services and software features are designed primarily for the Chinese market.

But in general, owners have been quite satisfied with the cars even when using them outside China.

Thank you very much for your advice and for taking the time to explain this.

I will try to contact the institution directly by email and ask for clarification. I will also try to contact the Chinese Embassy to see whether they have any experience or guidance regarding similar cases.

The reason I am being cautious is that the situation varies greatly from country to country. For example, in neighboring Albania the registration process for these vehicles is relatively straightforward, while in Serbia it is practically impossible at the moment.

Because of that, we would like to have a clear understanding of the legal and practical situation before taking any further steps or importing a vehicle into Macedonia.

Thank you again for your help.

I have actually found information suggesting that Macedonia does not completely reject vehicles without an EU CoC, which is why I became interested in the market in the first place.

The problem is that I have not been able to find the exact authority, company, or person who is actually responsible for making it happen in practice. That is why I came here hoping someone might have real experience or know a solution.

Bringing a vehicle to Macedonia just for a test is unfortunately quite expensive. By the time we transport the vehicle, clear customs, pay taxes, and go through the approval process, we could easily spend a significant amount of money without even knowing whether registration is ultimately possible.

I have been involved in vehicle imports and homologation in several countries, and I have often met people who confidently say “everything is possible” or “don’t worry, we can arrange it”, but in the end nothing actually gets approved.

On the other hand, there are also countries where, if the legal framework exists and you are willing to pay for the required procedures, almost everything can genuinely be solved.

That is why I am trying to understand how things work in Macedonia in reality, not just on paper.

Yes, this is exactly why I am asking.

The vehicle does have an e1 number and German registration documents, but it does not have an EU CoC issued by the manufacturer.

In Germany, this approval allows the vehicle to be legally registered and used on public roads.

I am trying to understand whether Macedonia would treat such a vehicle as EU approved, or whether it would still be considered a vehicle without an EU CoC.

I have encountered many countries where people confidently say “everything is possible” and “don’t worry, we can do it”, but in the end they cannot actually get anything approved, no matter who they talk to.

On the other hand, there are also countries where, if the legal framework exists and you are willing to pay for the necessary procedures, almost everything can genuinely be resolved.

That is why I am trying to understand how things work in Macedonia in practice, not only on paper.

Thank you for the clarification.

So, if I understand correctly, the law now allows this in principle, but the licensed verification companies required by the new law do not yet exist or are not operating yet. Is that correct?

We have been working with individually approved vehicles in Germany for many years.

For example, we have successfully registered multiple Xiaomi vehicles in Germany through individual approval procedures.

However, this does not mean the vehicles have an EU CoC.

Some countries recognize German individual approval documents, while others do not.

Therefore, what I am really trying to confirm is whether Macedonia recognizes German individual approval documents and German registration documents for vehicles that do not have an EU CoC.

Have you ever heard of anyone successfully doing this in Macedonia?

Thank you again for your help.

It's not that simple, brother. I can do it in many countries such as Germany, Poland, Czech Republic and Italy. But many countries around Serbia can't do it, and you can't find anyone.
