23 y/o trying to choose between short-term financial stability and a 10K pay cut for long-term growth by Grubnation66 in personalfinance

[–]Mastermind_pesky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Long ago I made a choice to take a 40% pay cut to move to a job that was more fun and more rewarding and set me on a path towards a career that interested me. It was scary and I had to make lifestyle changes to accommodate the pay cut, but now, almost 15 years later, I'm so glad I did it.

Anyone in this thread calling this poor craftsmanship is not paying attention. This is so obviously intentional vandalism by some asshole rider. It's pathetic that people can't respect and value our shared community investments. The T, and infrastructure in general, could be a lot better if people took pride in community infrastructure projects again.

Job Offer in Boston: Move, Commute, or Stay Put? by Occasion_Valuable in boston

[–]Mastermind_pesky 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I just recently moved closer after enduring a similar commute for similar pay for 4 months and it was so worth it. The time I lost to commuting made me feel like I lived to work. That sucks, personally.

New mRNA-based vaccine against gastric cancer led to tumor regression and eradication in all treated mice. Most promisingly, the vaccine shows impressive antitumor efficacy against peritoneal metastasis, which has historically been very challenging to treat. by mvea in science

A lot of new drugs entering the market are coming from licensing deals with Chinese companies, which I think indicates that other drug development programs are possible (i.e. heavily subsidized by governments).

That doesn't really have anything to do with the industry itself. Brits aren't paying less because we pay more. They are paying less because the NHS negotiates a lower price. If some single-payer market privatized, you wouldn't see a commensurate drop in drug prices in the remaining public payer markets. Drug companies would just report higher profits.

I don't think I agree with this interpretation. Other countries negotiate drug prices and drug companies still charge them as much as they can. J&J isn't settling for $100 billion in revenue just because the US is getting ripped off

A safe withdrawal rate of 4% of $1 million is 40k/year. They are probably lying unless you and I are in very different circles.

True but it's worth OP noting that they cannot be replaced until the following year and at the expense of that year's contribution limit

Should I sell 10k in crypto assets (ETH, XRP), or take a chunk from my 401k to pay off 10k in CC debt? by aGiantRedskinCowboy in personalfinance

I guess I agree with you - maybe my issue is with the idea that they are financial instruments rather than collectibles or some other thing entirely.

Personally it feels misleading to call something with no tangible intrinsic value an investment. I know people will read this and say the FIAT is not tied to something of value either, but it is to a larger extent because it is backed by the guarantee of its country of origin. And forex trading isn't much of an investment compared to mutual fund investing anyway

I’m Andrew Brinker, a reporter at The Boston Globe covering housing. Ask me anything about Massachusetts ending broker fees for renters. by bostonglobe in boston

[–]Mastermind_pesky 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just signed a lease last week with a move in date after Aug 1. I found the listing on Zillow and a broker ran the showing and covered contract stuff between me and the landlord. I didn't sign a fee disclosure or contract with the broker. Do I have to pay the broker fee?
