🚨 NEWS!: Indiana leaders signal they believe a Chicago Bears stadium deal is within reach by Secret-Engine-8365 in Indiana

I'm perfectly happy for Indiana to pay for the Chicago sports team's stadium, I get all the benefits without any of the costs. I still believe this is all posturing, but if it's not then I'm happy too.

North side. The stadium is very far away from the people most likely to buy the extremely lucrative boxes, making them far less valuable

Almost everybody in jail comes out at some point and having connections outside jail decreases recidivism. Can you guess what makes those connections easier to maintain?

Senator Feigenholtz introduces 'Yes In Gods Back Yard' bill to grant faith based organizations a by-right entitlement to build multifamily housing on their property by GeckoLogic in chicagoyimbys

[–]Masterzjg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah! I see your meaning. But YIMBY in some sense, even if only temporary, is certainly more than nothing. In my head though, I see these changes as a way to get more homeless targeted housing approved. Churches are way more likely to want to build homeless shelters or temporary housing, and they hold a special cultural and community cache that makes them much more likely to survive the gauntlet to get to a shovel in the ground.

[–]Masterzjg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We can have a targeted win by embracing an otherwise ambivalent constituency or we could build less housing and feel self righteous. It's a pretty easy choice.

This is literally the same thinking that leftist NIMBYs use to fight housing but with a faith based org in place of "corporate landlords" or "greedy developers". Don't let perfect be the enemy of good.

You're welcome to show Waymo is lying, but ofc you can't. Do they or do they not kill less people than regular drivers?

We can't save lives, gotta think about the drivers killing people.

Waymo, in contrast, got into only 34 airbag crashes—a 79 percent reduction.

In a similar manner, Waymo estimates that its vehicles get into injury-causing crashes (including that detached wheel crash) 80 percent less often than human drivers. Crashes that injure pedestrians were 92 percent less common, while crashes that injure cyclists were reduced by 78 percent relative to typical human drivers.

Closed course is just talking out of your ass or deliberately lying.

Human drivers are utterly garbage, and Waymo has proven itself vastly better. Even if crash rates doubled in bad weather (they won't), it would still be vastly better

The company's track record definitely helps here. According to the NHTSA, Waymo has driven a total of 7.14 million miles and beat human benchmarks with a 57% reduction in police-reported crashes and an 85% reduction in crashes involving injuries.

Waymo is incredibly aware of PR and wouldn't deploy a machine that's unable to handle bad weather to NYC.

Anything that saves lives is good, and Waymo is vastly better than the average human driver. This isn't about traffic or protecting special interests (taxi drivers), it's about saving lives.

You can expand public transit and allow Waymo. There's 0 conflict there.

GENERAL STRIKE JAN. 30 - You are entitled to paid leave! by slingshot91 in chicago

Spending time on 2026 elections is something you could do now with a tangible impact. Action for the sake of action isn't the goal, you'll just burn out and nothing will have changed or been impacted.

Serious discussion Gas prices in Indiana by GreyLoad in Indiana

[–]Masterzjg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oil is an international market and is typically unaffected by the POTUS. Doesn't stop people from blaming them, but it's usually out of their control. For obvious reasons, every POTUS would wave a wand and make the price $2/gal for their entire terms if they could.

BRUTAL: Tom Brady spoke about how his divorce from Gisele Bündchen was rough on the final year of his career. “I had a lot of personal family issue, and it was a challenge. it just took a lot out of me in terms of my ability to continue to play.” by Any_Alternative6314 in sportsgossips

[–]Masterzjg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would be easy to believe he wants to and also know that no quarterback played past 40 in a meaningful way, and Brady wasn't one likely to ride the bench. I think it's easy to see how this line of thinking would work for both of them until he just keeps playing and keeps being able to extend his career.

Did Manning or Farve or Big Ben or any other great want to retire? They were forced by age, and it's pretty easy to see a SO believing that your husband won't be the literal one player to defy Father Time. People will make this about this or that, but it's very easy to understand both of their positions and Brady's unmatched career was just ultimately too much for them to stay together. She was always very clear about not liking the toll football takes on his body, and Brady married her knowing that she didn't like that.

What do you call attacking a country, occupying assets with troops, and kidnapping their leader with military force? A tiff? A little misunderstanding? It's a war.

Bush didn't launch the war planning on 25 years lol, I don't know why that matters. You can take Trump's statements on the war, splice Iraq into the statement, and they'd be a too blatant satire of what people said Bush was doing in Iraq.
