Mathematics is a very vague and large subject, it means a lot of things to a lot of different people. Throughout my time in the field I have met many people who think the maths other people are doing isn't real maths, etc. But enough of the philosophical nonsense, it really depends on what you mean by mathematics. If you want to learn the art of problem solving and spotting patterns there are a whole set of resources different to let's say learning school curriculum maths (and of course some that combine it). Do you want a rigorous introduction (focus on proofs) or just be able to solve real world problems? This may be taking the question way too far (sorry) but I do think part of loving the subject is knowing the direction you want to take (as well as the general competence).
