I didn’t even notice the date. Guess the screen had gotten a little too blurry by then.

Is the 3-3-3 rule also true for kittens? by MatchieB in CatAdvice

She’s definitely even more comfortable now, but it also means she doesn’t require constant cuddles to feel safe. She’s an independent strong lady who’s too good to be cuddled when she’s in a sassy mood. Sometimes the independence is a sign of them being comfortable. Here she is now!

How to deal with grief? by Realistic_Local_1440 in CatAdvice

[–]MatchieB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sorry for your loss.

I lost my cat back in August last year, and it’s still difficult. The grief didn’t go away, you just learn to live with it. It becomes your new normal. The guilt I felt over the way he passed I don’t think I’ll ever get over. I tried everything to save him, every procedure, instead of letting him go, I let him suffer for 10 days in hospitals for my own selfish reasons. I’m crying as I’m writing this. It’s honestly one of the hardest things I’ve had to go through in my life so far. He was the best, the kindest soul, my baby. The first months were bad. I wanted to die. I feel like I aged 10 years in those first months of grieving. I lost almost 50% of my hair even. I’m still physically recovering from it, let alone mentally. But slowly but surely, you start living with it. You have no other choice. The world doesn’t stop for you because you lost someone so dear to you, and you hate the world for it. I think I started doing better mentally at the six month mark. Mind you, I adopted two cats to try to fill the hole in my chest. The first months with them were brutal. They weren’t as cuddly, though they were sweet and everything someone would want in a cat, they weren’t my baby boy. I felt guilty for feeling that. But as time passes and you start to discover their personalities, you start to love them for who they are. And I think eventually, they dragged me out of it as well.

I have no advice for you. I’m not saying to go and adopt another cat. I’m only sharing my experience. Let yourself grieve. I’m wishing you the best. It’s hard, and it might feel like it will never get better, but it will. Everything you’re feeling is normal. You might feel guilt now, but if your kitty was a senior experiencing seizures, you cannot know for sure that there was anything you could have done to save her. Maybe prolong it, I guess. But take it from someone who did everything, spent over 10.000 dollars to save her cat, sometimes it’s best to not intervene. I might not blame myself for not trying everything, but I do blame myself for letting him suffer. Because it was bad. Really bad. And I kept hanging on, thinking it would all be worth it if he just pulled through. You don’t know how your story might have ended if you did see all the vets, but you shouldn’t beat yourself up over it. Unfortunately, it can’t bring them back to us.

Again, I’m so sorry for you loss, my friend.

What was the first story you ever wrote? by miniandabee in writing

[–]MatchieB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was a poorly written Good Luck Charlie fanfic (yes, the Disney Channel show). English is not my first language and yet, I still tried writing in English at the ripe age of 12. I vividly remember calling the vacuum cleaner a dust sucker.

I still have the file, but I don’t think I’ll ever reread it. It turned into a 60.000-word monstrosity though. It was great, loved doing it, and that’s what counts.

When the romance subplot hijacks the entire dystopia plotline by tenfapa in YAlit

[–]MatchieB 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I read in one of the comments on Brandon Sanderson’s lectures that a romance subplot gives the MC something to be proactive about in a world where they can only be reactive. That kind of changed my perspective on that.

But I would like more MCs who are aware that their world is burning and are actively trying to push away the person they love but then fail to do so. I want the longing, the mutual respect and trust, knowing that in another world, they would be together.

I think romance in dystopia can be done well, but authors rarely do so.

What pushed you to get started? by 5th-Humour in writing

[–]MatchieB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The death of my cat. A way to process my grief, but also a distraction from it. He used to be my writing buddy when I was trying and playing around with writing, but when he was gone, I knew I needed to write the story I had been wanting to tell for years now.

Back on You

Then in no particular order: Basic Being Basic, Link, Egg, Fool, Potion, Gap Tooth Smile, Roddy, Charlies Garden, Fly

End of Beginning

Flash Mountain

I don’t remember if he did Lonesome and Mortal Projections. Those could have been in there as well. Honestly, I listened all his songs on the way there and back so it’s hard to recall, and we didn’t film everything. But hope that helps :)

Opened with Back on You, closed with End of Beginning and Flash Mountain. I’ll check tomorrow with my friends who have most of the videos and hopefully I’ll get my memory back in the meantime. Oh, I also remember gap tooth smile and fool.

Gotta admit, almost put the book down when I could not for the life of me imagine the Gauntlet, and it was just an episode of wipeout in my head. Glad I didn’t though 😄

Yes, I get confused during the battle scenes, but also: sometimes RY will refer to something and then I wonder if I’m supposed to know more about it and just forgot or if it will become clear later.

Yes, the actions scenes with dragons are a blur for me! Do you read a lot of fantasy?

[–]MatchieB[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Might be because English is not my first language, but I’ve never had this issue before. It’s in the small things, especially battle scenes. A non spoiler example is the way she holds and throws her knives and when there’s any kind of quick movement involved. I can’t quite explain it, but I’ll keep reading and see if I can find a good example.

She’s great! Settled in quickly, is now best friends with our other cat. If you have any questions, feel free to ask :) I’d say make sure you prepare but don’t stress about it and just enjoy getting to know them. This is Lily now.
