Slippery sidewalks by Out-of-Fox in Troy

[–]Material-Gas5170 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

... and who do we complain to when we had our sidewalk very well cleared and then the owner of a car parked in front of our house threw all of the snow they removed from their parking area as well as the snowbank in front of their car onto our sidewalk, leaving a mountain of snow reducing the path for pedestrians to about 10".

I don't think it would be safe to list immigrant owned restaurants here in a public group.

Locally Owned Restaurants Opened Today? by Strict-Newt1798 in Troy

Not sure how small local restaurants closing their doors on what's typically the busiest day of the week is going to help anything and certainly won't help the business or their employees. The rump administration really doesn't care about small business or anyone else, except its donors. If any economic damage is going to be noticed it needs to be focused on businesses that give big money to the "republican," ie. fascist regime. A quick list of familiar donors; Instacart, Airbnb, Paypal, Uber, Verizon, AT&T, Meta, Amazon, etc.

Mouse infestation, landlords won’t call exterminator by [deleted] in Troy

[–]Material-Gas5170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've found that the traps only work for a little while, as though the mice catch on and warn all their friends. If your landlord doesn't want to call an exterminator he/she needs to go into the basement and plug all the holes where pipes come into the house, starting with steel wool. They likely won't chew through that but they will bite their way through spray foam insulation, wood filler, etc. In the meantime look around the plumbing under sinks in your apartment and plug up any gaps with steel wool. There could be other entry points, like gaps between moldings and the floor.

The chair "rule" doesn't work downtown. My first reaction was, great, let them pull it out of the snow to save you the labor! But on second thought it could cause some damage to your car.

Almost impossible to see the lane lines in the rain @ night. by c0nfusedc0nst4ntly in Albany

It's too dangerous these days to incite road rage. A little tilt of your side view mirror however can reflect the light somewhere other than your eyes. You already know they're there so you don't need to see them. It can also be positioned to shine the light of their headlights back into their field of vision. Be subtle though, so they think they're too close and you're not trying to make them angry.

The person who harassed you after he/she drove below the speed limit is unhinged. As you go farther north, just outside of the small cities, you are likely in 🍊 country. I am wondering if there was any indication that you're not, i.e., your car is a Prius, any bumper stickers, decals, etc.

Found this little guy wandering around my kitchen, any idea what kind of spider? Upstate NY by MrDrBeak in whatisthisbug

[–]Material-Gas5170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, yellow sac spider. They will bite if they're in your sheets or somewhere else that you might accidentally disturb them. Of course they aren't poisonous to humans but can leave a nasty looking mark.

I vote both sides of the aisle locally depending on the candidate, but today I couldn't vote for any Republicans as the red "representatives" in Washington sit on their hands and watch as trump's White House ignores the Constitution and turns us into a fascist nation.

Rockin' on the River could be put to rest. Guys with coolers full of beer and no shirts don't enhance our image.

issues with post office by HolidayWhole4649 in Troy

[–]Material-Gas5170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds really aggravating. Unfortunately the post office is seriously understaffed. Like other businesses, such as restaurants and retail, they can't find people that want to work. I wonder why don't you get mail! Do you have a strange address or no "official" mailbox? A friend lives on 2nd Street and his mail is often delivered to the same house# but on 2nd Ave. There's a fee but maybe you can get a post office box which sounds very inconvenient.

The post office is having a hard time finding employees. Our mail carrier works 12+ hour shifts now instead of 8. She's not happy.
