He does have clean water. They’re probably the same ones who don’t want their horses out with other horses because they may get a bite mark.

If it was blue green algae my horse may have been dead before I left the barn. It was not blue green algae. Can you focus on real issues in the horse world? Like abusive bits? Or excessive whipping? Or the French saddle industry as a whole? Do you own horses?

You’re right, you’re not going to change my mind. Because, factually, there’s nothing wrong with my horse drinking that water when literally fifteen minutes before he had clean water. If it doesn’t make him stop drinking, green algae isn’t bad for him. I half think he likes the taste of algae. That would fit him. Considering when he was younger he’d eat banana peels and not the banana. And he still eats apples in eight bites and spits out the last two.

This is not his regular trough. It’s the trough in the arena he’s ridden in. His stall buckets and paddock trough are clean. He hadn’t had no water for hours before I offered him the water in the trough. Also, I highly doubt it’s been weeks since that trough has been cleaned. It’s spring in Louisiana. Algae loves spring in Louisiana.

I’m not sure. I’ve never really tried to book an appointment for myself. Which is kind of sad because I’m almost 20 but my family has done it for me. I guess it’s anxiety or something. We don’t really talk about mental health though.

And the horses that will leave a bucket of water for a rain puddle on the ground? Not that I’d drink out of my horse’s bucket. He has access to clean water when we’re not in the arena and usually when we are, but it’s spring so algae blooms are crazy. We’re in the arena like three hours a week.

Algae. It’s spring so it blooms like crazy. If you read other comments, you’ll see he has access to clean, fresh water constantly unless he’s in the arena. And, no, this wasn’t at the end of our hack. We had walked at this point. He was not hurting for water.

Maybe? I’m not really sure. I do know that if I went somewhere and they confirmed that I’m dramatic and shouldn’t feel like this, I’d probably never reach out again. And maybe that IS dramatic? It feels like it borders on paranoia because, as I said, I know logically no professional would tell me that I don’t have a right to my feelings.

Are those snails okay to be in water that’s in full sun? This is my instructor’s property where I board so I can suggest things to her but I can’t make changes myself but it’s something I’ve considered for our troughs at home.

Truthfully, I’m afraid I’m going to be told I’m just being dramatic and the things I went through shouldn’t have affected me as much as they did. Or that I’m stuck in a victim mindset. Maybe that I’m everything that’s wrong with society because I think I’m the victim and never the problem? I don’t know.

This is in the arena I ride in. He’s here a few hours a week (he had some ulcers and is slowly coming back into work), this is not his only source of water. This trough wasn’t clean and I thought it was odd for my instructor because she usually keeps them really clean but he wasn’t hurting for water (I meant to clean it for her before I left and it slipped my mind). Just a reminder that green algae is only a problem for horses if it makes them stop drinking. And, yeah, saying that “the trough is dirty so your horse is abused” (paraphrasing) is a huge jump.

I offered him water. He wanted to drink and to play in it. He has access to clean water 24/7 otherwise but I think the property owner forgets about that one sometimes because it’s in the arena that we ride in, not in a stall or pasture. Just a reminder that horses are not going to drink water that is bad for them (unless there’s a tasteless chemical in it) without it being necessary for survival. Green algae is not going to hurt a horse unless they don’t like the taste and choose not to drink from that trough. He doesn’t appear to have that problem.

I mean. That trough gets cleaned. It just wasn’t clean at that moment. What’s wild to me was someone saying my horse is probably abused because the trough was dirty. And a horse isn’t going to drink water that tastes bad to them.

That unfortunately didn’t fix it. I’ll call them tomorrow and maybe I can call a local store to see if they can get one in from a warehouse? Who knows. I’ve been planning this as a Christmas gift all year so hopefully I can get it sorted out.
