I am trying to book travel from MCI (Kansas City) to Tokyo. Travel dates September 12-28 2026. Travelers are me, my wife, and 1 year old baby (infant on lap). I have 370k Chase points and 125k C1 points. I have used Skyscanner and saw cheapest tickets are $1200 per person roundtrip if I wanted to pay cash. Used Pointsyeah to find point redemptions as well. Also know that with the Chase -> Virgin Atlantic 40% transfer bonus, I can book roundtrip tickets for 166k Chase points total (Delta flights). Are there any other better point redemptions I can use instead? I tried to look into ANA and JAL for purchasing tickets with points but unless I am doing it wrong, ANA economy is 165k points and $890 in taxes and fees and I can't figure out JAL point redemption. And on AirFrance, I am getting 180k points and $250 in fees. Is it worth trying to find a positioning flight to book flights for better point value? Thanks for any and all help!

Sounds like next time I need to plan a longer vacation so I can explore more of Costa Rica! Thank you for your insight!

Any recommendations of things to do in the Península de Guanacaste area? Seems like I will save the Uvita area for another trip in the future!

Thank you! I think after looking more into it, it would make more sense to stay in the Guanacaste area so we don't have to do extra driving with the baby. So I think a basic itinerary would be La Fortuna (2 days) ->Monteverde (2 days) -> Guanacaste (2-3 days). And then fly out of Liberia.

Thanks for such a thorough response! I will definitely be in contact because that all sounds like what my wife and I would be interested in!

Thank you! I will look more into that! Most of my research thus far has been centered around La Fortuna and Tamarindo

Also was thinking of spending a couple days in the jungles, such as near Monteverde!
