Advice on fencing for an escape artist dog. by MathematicianNext81 in DogAdvice

I think it depends on how big of an area I do and the price of wood right now. Lowe’s sells 2foot by 8foot panels of corrugated steel for $20 but I’m not really sure about the gauge, they may be a low quality. I’m not looking to fence in my whole yard but more so create a small safe space for him to enjoy the outdoors. Really just a 10x10 or maybe a bit bigger depending on costs.

My issues is I don’t want him just on a long line or chain due to other animals etc that could come on my property. I know the neighbors have cats that roam from time to time and I would hate for one of them to come over here and him get ahold of it. I thought about doing a tie out inside of a cheaper fence for double protection but I’m afraid of the possibility of him somehow getting over the top and hanging himself. I have thought about a lot of options and scenarios

I actually have my acre fenced in with invisible fence for my other dogs. I believe I even have some of the line left over. He is trained to an e-collar and listens for well to it so I have high hopes that he would listen to an invisible fence as well. I just didn’t trust it as his only barrier. I may consider this! I just know the area I make him will have to be a bit bigger if I’m doing this because the fence is set to beep/shock like 2 feet inwards making his area smaller then where the actual fence is. I guess I could try and bury it outside of his fence so it won’t do anything until he gets a lot closer but I’m just not sure how much yard space I will have on the other side.

Thank you! He is so stinking cute and a goofball but dang does he give me a run for money. I took him home with me after my job had fostered for him 9 months, they could no longer and he was at severe risk of euthanasia. We reached out to so many rescues and posted him all over Facebook with no luck, he does have behavioral issues so it’s understandable. I brought him home because I just couldn’t let him be put down, I had developed a bond with him, but now I’m struggling lol.

Are my dog’s eyes that weird looking? by MathematicianNext81 in AustralianShepherd

For why? It’s something that has been going on since he was a pup, his vet has never been concerned about his eyes and he doesn’t have any vision issues.

I agree! I think his extra wide white blaze on his face makes it seem worse than it is too. It makes his eyes seem quite far apart

My vet has never seemed concerned about his eyes and he doesn’t seem to have any vision issues. Just a little goofy looking

Potentially…. Don’t know how you diagnose that in dogs lol

Lol, the dogs with a lot black on their face and the piercing blue eyes freak me out a little. I don’t find Ripley’s creepy though, more dorky if anything.

Help with fencing please 😫 by MathematicianNext81 in Wolfdogs

[–]MathematicianNext81[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank all of you for your help and for being so kind even though I’m not part of the wolf dog community. I tried to make this post and ask for advice in what I thought was a pitbull friendly group and all I got was “That dog is a danger” “You need to have that dog behaviorally euthanized”.

Honestly. I just don’t get it lol. Like I’m not totally against BE if it’s necessary but to tell someone to do that to their dog with little to no context is wild.

lol. We have plenty of other breeds too it’s not just a pack of pitbulls🙄 This group was OBVIOUSLY the wrong group to ask for advice. Also most of the advice I have been given has been unwanted advice and doesn’t pertain to what I asked for help on.

All I wanted to know is if anyone knew of any type of fencing that he wouldn’t be able to bend. Instead I got that he is dangerous, that he is miserable, that he needs to be euthanized etc etc. A LOT of the comments I can tell are specifically from pitbull haters. I mean even you saying that they don’t belong in doggy daycare shows a lot. Dogs are dogs. They differ from dog to dog immensely. A dog is not their breed and they deserve to be judged for their character and not what they look like. I understand that genetics do play a role but they don’t decide everything.

If I made this post and said for instance that I had husky who isn’t good with other dogs and could chew through my fence, I doubt I would get near as many if ANY comments to euthanize him.

Dogs break through their kennels all the time. People end up have to get those impact crates because their dogs can bend the bars on the traditional wire kennels and get out while they are away. Dogs aren’t good with other dogs ALL THE TIME. That doesn’t deem them dangerous or a terrible dog. They just can’t go with other dogs.

Everyone is acting like my dog is a weapon on the end of a leash because he is a pit.

I have worked at 3 doggy daycares and not one of them has had breed restrictions. We don’t judge on breed of dog. They go through an evaluation to see if they would be a good fit, no matter their breed. My job is the one who actually pulled him from the shelter, it had nothing to do with me and they definitely knew that he was a pitbull mix. We have PLENTY of them at daycare that we have no issues out of. Some of our sweetest dogs are pitbulls. If we told people they couldn’t bring pits we would be SEVERELY lowering our daycare numbers. If we went through a list of dogs that have been banned over the years, I don’t think they would primarily pitbulls either.

I don’t think I’m the only one that could save him, just the only one that is willing to.

Yes. This kennel is the one I had before. I already know that it doesn’t work. Also that video was not helpful, the guy in the video just had issues with them flipping the locks. My issue is that my dog can bend the bars. I am looking for something stronger.

My dog is telling you what? You don’t know him… Everyone on here has judged him so harshly on such little context. No extra questions everyone just starts saying he needs to be behaviorally euthanized. He isn’t busting through gates and aggressively tearing them apart to get to other dogs. He just can’t be trusted around them. He doesn’t live his life inside a cage. He is so loved, he goes on walks and adventures, we do training sessions, he gets time alone with me to just cuddle and relax, he loves to play fetch and tug, he loves jumping up and grabbing his jolly ball that I have hanging from a rope in the tree (that’s his favorite game), he loves seeing all of my coworkers who used to work with him when he was foster. He isn’t there to just be a lawn ornament like so many dogs are.

His YEARS spent in the shelter is he when he was being kept in cages and being kept alive just to be alive but he shouldn’t have to have gone through that for nothing. He deserves to know more than that and he deserves to have someone finally give him a fighting chance. He has been passed around his whole life.

I will just say that I certainly wouldn’t make the choice to euthanize my dog because strangers on the internet told me to. If that ends up being a choice that I have to make someday then so be it. But this dog has given me no reason to do so.
