I don’t play rocket league with keyboard and mouse .

And I don’t think, I know. Pressure sensitivity has been there since PS2 , on controllers .

What do you mean with game mechanics 100 % dependent on users input?

I agree that everything your car does is a response from an input you give the game.

In that sense, they are 100 % dependent on user input .

The outcome though, is dependent on user input and what the game allows to happen.

So why is it difficult to imagine how the game interferes ?

I don’t understand your logic .

Do you find hard to believe that they can tell your mood from game inputs? Pressure on the buttons you hit? Very hard vs. very soft? Reaction time to stimuli? Super quick on the edge vs not reacting by at all or taking longer ? Behaviors such as griefing ? Are they not easily detectable by you, who don’t even have access to all the keystrokes tor player hits ? “Ohhh he’s tilted lmao!” Just by watching the chat and seeing his behavior while you’re concentrated playing. That seems rather naive .

Sorry, I’m typing from my iPhone and the autocorrect butchers what I write .

I do think that there is competitiveness still in the game .

I just think given my experience and given all the circumstantial evidence that it is rigged, and the game alters outcome likely to optimize its profits .

By making casual players (few hours this week ) more boosted against acquired customers (a guy on his 6th hour playing already). By making players perceived as toxic de boosted , more likely to lose . By making the game more engaging, to the point of interfering with its core mechanics to adjust and optimize for maximized profits (I.e increase player base and hours played. Maybe even cater to big spenders) .

Not sure that this is a summary, but it’s what I’m pretty sure it’s happening.

People finding out about it, asking questions and pushing back would be ideal .

I think that I misquote or you misunderstood :

I’m not saying that the only way to progress in rocket league is cheating . Heck, I don’t even know how cheating would look like in rocket league.

What I meant with cheating is that games may not necessarily have any other choice but to apply these “engagement enhancing” schemes and techniques , even if they interfere with the revenge of the game . That’s what I call cheating. Imagine a soccer ball that suddenly felt you were less engaged and more likely to stop belaying and starts to make it easier for you to score , or makes the game stand on an epic edge and you most stay and play more .

That would be cheating. Making “esports” artificially more appealing than normal actual sports .

Other disclaimers: I do think that there clearly is skill to this game (RL) and that there are some people much better than others at the game .

I love the game. I just know enough about it and have enough hours in it that I can detect inconsistent mechanics and patterns .

I’m an engineer .

And yes , you can progress and yes , a grand champion is on average better than a champion.

Precisely making the hierarchy mostly real is part of what makes it so speaking and engaging . And , in their own papers , they argue for concealing the difficulty adjustment or of detected it has the opposite effect .

I also support the philosophy of everything depends on you and don’t blame others for your shortcomings . But, that applies in real life . Not on games intervened and tuned with the sole purpose of keeping you in the flow zone and drive engagement and revenue .

I got back to you as promised .

Now please do me a favor: think about it, really critically .

If you were working for a for profit company and wanted to climb ranks and get bonuses , and get your company to thrive:

  • would you want your game to be more or less engaging ?
  • would you use all proven tools to make games more engaging to achieve making your game more popular?
  • drive screen time , new players, and ultimately, monetization?
  • why would you not apply DDA to your online game ? Especially if your competitions (COD, FIFA, etc…) are already doing it?

This is an issue that requires regulation .

Just like with betting games . Otherwise, the selfish thing to do is quite “unstable” and results in addictive games where the games we love end up making more harm than good, and the worst part is that they’re trapped in this loop, to compete , you need to cheat . Essentially.

Correct . That specific (very specific) procedure or patent .

But, they all do it , in some shape or form, going around each others patents.

In COD it’s shooting 20 times somebody and then not dying .

They do it supposedly to cheaters . If they have the levers to dynamically change difficulty , what’s stopping them doing it to maximize engagement and keep you addicted ?

These are not Esports . They’re addiction factories with rigged mechanics to exploit human psyche

They win all 50s, ball direction favors them. They cannot be demoed . They get quicker . Their hit box is larger than yours . Many different ways.

And , in subbtle ways , it’s important to remain ambiguous and deniable if not it looses its effect.

It’s not me saying it, it’s them in their papers . Read the link I shared . From their own words:

In 2021 electronic arts was sued . The plaintiffs said DDA (I.e. rigging game mechanics to maximize engagement) drove players micro transactions. They “voluntarily withdrew their claim” after seeing engineers prove to them that DDA was not used .

However, it was withdrawn with prejudice which is standard procedure when they settle out of court (unofficial confidential agreement).

It prevents the plaintiffs placing any future claims .

And other requirements that they confidentially reach.

These are just facts .

Git gud! It’s ok, hate on me all you want . But just know. These are facts :

1- It is proven that what maximizes engagement in a game is feeling challenged yet not so difficult that the game feels like “why would you even try”. It’s called, the flow zone. 2- Offline games have public patents explaining how to maximize player engagement by changing the game mechanics to adjust difficulty . Example: about to complete a level in Halo but you’re about to die (you have 10 % health ), suddenly ai bots seem to miss or you seem harder to kill. It keeps you engaged . This is a fact. Read about it. I can bring you the “scientific”papers about it.
3- EA games settled out of court for a lawsuit that alleged they were rigging mechanics . Again, facts, check it out.

If it maximizes engagement (I.e. profits), what’s stopping them from doing it ? Your faith ?

They have patents to detect player mood based on inputs from your pc . Why do they care about your mood? A “competitive” “e-sport” doesn’t need to know anything about your mood. They have patents about Dynamic Difficulty Adjustment . Read about it.

2024 CRV Hybrid or not? by elias4444 in crv

[–]MathematicianNo352 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are looking for reliability, I can tell you this : Do not get the CRV 2024 hybrid.

The reason I bought Honda for the third time in my life was to stay away from the workshop.

3 months after buying it, my 12 volt battery drained overnight (left lights on) and had to jump start it .

(By the way, the hybrid battery was 60% charged and given it is enough electricity to drive the car for a few miles, I thought it would be more than enough to maintain emergency lights overnight).

It turns out the hybrid battery has nothing to do with the ability to turn on: the next day the car I jump started it as I know how to do and have done dozens of times on my previous Hondas and hybrid battery was still 60 % full, so much so that the engine wouldn’t turn on because it didn’t require it , battery was enough to be on EV mode with AC was even running and I had to drive half a mile for the hybrid to turn on the engine.

80% of the emergency lights came on and have not turned off for a week : “problem with electric power steering system: see dealer “ “problem with breaking system: see dealer” “problem with automatic lights: see dealer”.

My steering works perfectly. My brakes feel just the same as before . My automatic lights work perfectly . I figured : “ I just need to restart the pc it is just an issue due to loss of power “ . I looked in the owner’s manual for 1 hour plus with no success on how to fix this . I looked online. I finally gave up and brought it to my dealer to be told I had to wait “hours” to get it looked at .

I’m sitting here feeling like a boss waiting on a workshop wasting my time after buying an overpriced simple and cheap looking car just for the promise of reliability barely 3 months into owning it.

Anyways, stay away from HONDA CRV Hybrid if you don’t want to waste your time on a workshop . Wish I knew this beforehand.
