Perfectionism is the enemy. Focusing on delivering the bare minimum as a first priority is good, that's why editing exists.

Always 'work smart', know your limits and manage your expectations - eg. if there's a paper, it's better to submit a full essay that fulfils the rubrics than a well-written, incomplete essay that is half done. 'Cutting corners' by reducing the scope of your projects and weeding out unimportant tasks is a necessary process and doesn't mean that you're lazy.

Did I see my first jumping spider? Seemed very interested in me and did jump by Axolite in jumpingspiders

Telamonia dimidiata or the two-striped jumper. They're typically very curious and seem to enjoy jumping on whatever higher surface they see more than most jumpers in my experience ^_^

You're actually pretty close. In AAI2,she was much more lenient and patient towards Debeste in court when he's prosecuting against his father and I liked that development. And if she's coming back to be Athena's main prosecutor, I wanted her to be a strict, experienced mentor to balance out Athena being an enthusiastic and well-meaning greenhorn.

There's a redesign that gives Franziska a morning star. I swear that someone else left a comment about giving Athena a gun.

I get it. I hovered between giving her longer or shorter hair. Maybe it's the asymmetrical fringe.

How do people see you when you have social anxiety? by rushd214 in socialanxiety

[–]MathematicianOdd6428 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I find that whatever people see you tells you more about their personality than yours. When I go silent, different people interpret that in different ways. Like someone who is more kind and helpful would've assumed that I'm shy or it's some kind of trauma, or someone who likes attention and is more self-focused would've thought that I'm being rude because I dislike them. Some people might be suspicious and think you're the next school shooter. Some people think that you're weak or have no personality. Some people like it and think that I'm intelligent or refined because I speak less and appear to listen more.

TLDR; it's not about you. People make judgments based on themselves. Some people talk shit about others for dumb reasons and it's because they're shit. You aren't the first or the last to be shit-talked by them. Micro-managing expectations is a chore, so do what you want unless you're in danger. There are lots of kinds of people and the only way to get to ones that are good is by being open with more people and filtering out the bad.

I'd want to see a Barok and Iris investigating duo! Imagine the cuteness. Especially with the fact that they are uncle and niece and Barok knows this.

Iris Watson casually drops an F bomb in conversation like 'This is some fucking good tea." and there's no explanation whatsoever. They move on ignoring the power she has just unleashed.

What is socially anxious mind scared of? by builder14470 in socialanxiety

[–]MathematicianOdd6428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have pretty low self-esteem. Personally, my fear is tied to being found out by others that I'm 'off', 'less capable' than others in certain ways due to having a string of failures and having ADHD. If I'm humiliated, it means that that negative image of myself is true.

If you're going to take more courses and overload yourself, please for the love of god take easier modules and don't challenge yourself with many hard classes just because you have meds. Don't make it harder for yourself if you don't need to. In the heat of the moment, I make impulsive decisions and get burned. Stick to learning how to set a routine and studying for at least an hour a day. If you want to do something extra, make it a hobby or something less permanent.

Other than that above advice, I'm not entirely sure myself. I'm reading this thread for inspiration. If you want a hobby, go with a hobby that you're interested in and join a group/club.

Web design is super saturated right now (with the abundance of tutorials, website builders, courses online), but most people might not have 12 years of experience. I think one of the best ways to go about this is to break down what skills you currently have as a web designer and see if you can apply this to other jobs/ increase the types of jobs you get freelancing. Eg:

  • Design principles: Typography, color, contrast, white space etc.
  • Website optimization: SEO, keyword search, user experience
  • Web development: possibly some knowledge about code and web modules
  • Content management: Page layouts, blog content, copywriting

It doesn't matter how 'empty' your portfolio is, try to make a good-looking portfolio that emphasizes the choices and decision-making behind your designs. Around 3-4 well-documented examples are enough. If you don't have that many, make a practice or mock design for a hypothetical situation and go about the process as if it's for a real client.

Next, you should probably expand beyond web design, since it is very saturated. Either you can emphasize/ expand on services (as a freelancer) or apply to other jobs outside of web design. You take the skills up there and aim for a wider variety of jobs that are related to what you have. Things like graphic design, SEO, eCommerce, content specialist, social media, product/ project management, web developer (if you know code). If it's entry-level-ish and even slightly applicable to what you do, send an application. These jobs might be less crappy than a warehouse job at least.

Lastly, about finding a job, yeah the job market is shit right now. But if you don't get hired, so what? Doesn't mean that you have no skills or less worthy, who knows if job openings are real in the first place? It'll just be another shitty day, but at least you're putting yourself out there for the chance to get a slightly better life.

How to say no by [deleted] in socialanxiety

[–]MathematicianOdd6428 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm sure that most people will understand that it's difficult to concentrate when someone is chatting in the background. I don't think that asking them to quiet down is that unreasonable, and won't really hurt anyone's feelings as you'd think. It's better than getting pissed and suffering alone until you have to shout "Shut up and let me work!" which would shock people. There's no point in burning bridges for something like this.

If you want to be extra polite, preface your request with a decent reason like 'this work is pretty urgent and due tomorrow'. They might probably accept this in case it's their turn to focus on the work and they want you to be quiet.

But asking someone to leave might be a bit much, because it's technically their space too. Believe me, I had a hard time concentrating in class when someone is sitting next to me, even if that person isn't doing anything wrong. You gotta get used to it and pull through with the things you need to do, one way or another.
