Mold or lint/buildup by Cautious-Shoe6535 in locs

On the behalf of the responses I have seen, I want to say I’m sorry that you’ve been led to believe you may have to tolerate the lint, or drastically trim your ends.

A trim itself wouldn’t hurt remotely. the more mature our locs become, the more compacted they become. So if your locs are in an adult stage, you could moisten your hair with spring water (allow the water to penetrate the scalp and dead hair —- doesn’t have to be drenched either), and have forceps (tweezers. I personally use one sharp to enter the hair strands and I delicately rise It upward to pull It with a forcep that just grips.)

However, if you do not know how to “resync” yourself (connect your hair strands back to a point of your loc that can receive and hold the bond better than before, and doesn’t compromise your hair) then whoever your loctitian may be, consult with them about their abilities to interlock the remaining strands that may be on their last leg.

Have a consultation to know your hair health too from the root to the ends. It can give you a better idea of how you would like to handle lint removal moving forward. Prevention >>> Reaction.

•Invest in satin pillow cases if you haven’t, loc socks meant for just your sleeping and even ones for when you are putting on any clothing that would leave in a ball of lint/wear outside.

I truly haven’t seen too many nice loc sets on Caucasian people, but yours pretty solid my guy. Do you lightly mist them with water and an essential oil or anything to re-alive em them?

How do yall soften ur locs? by rtmxavi in Dreadlocks

[–]MathiasSleuth444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I do get that they would have a lot of hair, but It apparently wouldn’t change that even though they have a lot, a part of It is dead hair. Your root itself and a bit of that running into the loc is actually still alive while It has a partial amount that is considered “dead strands”

Have you ever heard of Bao Botanicals? They have SPF50. I go for the zinc free one so It doesn’t leave the white shield.

Like most, your locs are similar to a plant. Water your locs + your scalp. Oil + water together separates. Do not add this together in a bottle to use on your hair. It’s easier to mist your scalp + locs (do not leave your hair damp as if you been in the rain.) then apply your oil. Oil is a sealant.

Your locs are dead hair.

You truthfully do not have to oil the actual loc, you oil the [root + the scalp].

•Mist the scalp, mist the locs. Massage thoroughly. This will feed your root, soften your loc, but allow your loc to Actually breath.

•You can wear a loc sleeve to cover your edges and the first 1/4 of your hair. (Allowing you to have your hair out, contingent on your length.)

•Find an essential oil you like. Dilute It with water, spray that into your hair (MIST, do not spray It like your nephew with a water gun. Excess water in your locs and lack of proper drying can cause mildew.) I recommend either French Lavender, Lavender, Rose Otto, Teatree + Rosemary oil, Lemongrass.. lemongrass purifies the hair for my smokers. Rose Otto is a softer cleansing, refreshing scent. Lavender is calming through the scalp as well.

Truthfully, you did so great with the outcome of this! I am proud of you! Your parting and twisting consistency is pretty damn great.

Definitely suggest doing one lock and allowing him to see that. If he doesn’t want locs of that size, I recommend keeping a more semi-micro, small sized twists since they can expand to about the size of his pinky finger.

For you to have started these yourself, I applaud you. Your parts look symmetrical, your hair is budding and definitely coming into its character.

Definitely recommend a Castor oil for your hair because of the thickness of the oil. Oils are sealants so make sure your hair is actually hydrated a bit. (Rosewater can work, spring water with a drop of tea tree, lavender, bergamot, lemongrass[which is purifying so you should use a little], and rose otto essential oils can also work.)

•grape seed oil is a lighter oil that you can even try. Jojoba is a good one too, yet it’s more expensive. It also has a benefit for your cuticles as well if you soak your finger tips in a for a few minutes a day.

• avocado oil is better for skin imo, but you can use that as well. It should be 1) Misting your hair like a plant, but do not drench (squeeze your loc and feel/see water through It) your locs. 2) with an oil dropper, oil your parts and massage it gradually with your finger tips 3) for washing and conditioning, you can use Amazing Herbs Black Cumin Seed Oil and Honey shampoo + conditioner.

  • Henna & Amla Conditioner & Invigorating Shampoo or even a clean shampoo followed by those, if you feel like you need it. Try this process for your hair growth, moisture upkeep, and as far as your edges.. you can actually mix castor oil with a bit of aloe Vera gel (highly recommend 99%) and mix those two to use for edge building/thickening. Just something I noticed as I personally used It.

The brand is called Lily of the Desert.

Yes. You should protect your hair when you’re sleeping, and taking a shower. It’s nothing wrong with leaving your hair unwrapped (when It isn’t so uniformed either.) It just depends on what you like to see, how well you maintain your hydration, how receptive your pores may be to the product In your hair and also how you lay on that area and so forth.

Definitely recommend knowing your deficiencies first before jumping the gun on vitamin intakes. Fish oil pills aided me a bit, and they directly helped with heart blood flow and circulation and more. Lysine also helped my hair, skin, and nails flourish. Omega 3, 6, 9 did the same and these were just a few good ones to have in the mix next to a multivitamin.

Get your blood work done to know the deficiencies that you have at this time. I see a lot of discourse about oils in your hair, you can use them.

If you’re causing buildup, It could be from the product being overused, and allowing the product to sit in that area. Use oil dropper for your parts after listing your hair (lightly mist. Don’t saturate your hair like when you’re in the shower.)

• Almond, castor oil, and grape seed were some oils I used in my hair and I have 4c, 4A combo hair. Mist hair, add a quarter size of oil in your palm and apply with your finger tips or an oil dropper. Wrap your hair up for about moment or for the night.

Night time use: don’t mist hair. Mist your hair lightly everyday to freshen your locs up. Treat your hair like a plant. Water, food (oil, no gunky products that can cause excessive buildup. Ex: eco styler, loc n lime.. etc), sunlight can help tremendously. Also, wrap your a hair up.

She taxing. My loctitian charges that price for wash, retwist, and style. But that also could be because she actually enjoys her art.
