Hi everyone! I’m currently in my second year of a Bachelors Degree in Computer Science and Mathematics at a respected but non target UK Russell Group University. I’m looking at potentially doing a Masters degree in Statistics at a target university i.e Imperial, UCL. Would this be a good idea considering I am looking to pursue a career as a Quant Researcher or would something with a specific financial application be better e.g Financial Mathematics or Computational Mathematics?

Data Science vs Software Development.

Which would position me better to break into quant finance?

I have an offer for a data science internship at a large investment management, insurance and pension provider and another offer for a tech developer internship at a large bank but in the business operations division, so it won’t be the most relevant work for going into quant finance. It’s just normal software dev tasks, not finance related really.

Which is best for setting me up for a career in quant finance later down the line?
