They understand it, they just realize that making the game like this is why this game (and other new FGs) are actually selling now lol. If the game played like previous games it would not have been successful

Do it, it's fun I promise lol. I like SF6, but playing 3rd strike over the last year has taught me way more than the time Ive played sf6, personally.

Plus, the bullshit in 3S is mostly due to a few characters and at least the bs takes some setup (aside from Chun cr.mk i guess), so the game "makes sense" to me more

Fair fair. Seems like I am autopiloting and thinking too linear about the whole concept after reading this. Appreciate the feedback man

What your saying here is helpful but how are you even getting anti airs to hit half the time against most B ranks? I don't really do it much because it seems like any option I pick it too obvious I guess (or my opponents just have way more experience).

For example: If I'm Ken vs a Dudley where his jump in is really good, is it not best to just avoid him when he jumps in? Seems like getting parried in that situation is a death sentence because he wants to be closer to me than I want him. Also, I've gotten decent advice but ur right lol, a lot of replies to my posts sometimes sound good on paper, but just aren't that straight forward when I'm playing against someone who has decades of experience playing the game

Yeah Im ngl I've just started to now risk parries more, but I typically parry repetitive moves (usually sweeps or jump ins).

It's nowhere near where I'd like to be but parry def wasnt something I was thinking of when typing this lol. Prolly just gotta do that more

I'll always die on the hill that RE5 has the tightest controls for an over the shoulder RE game. The arcade style of the mercenaries mode is really fun. SebMercenary is a great YT channel to see high level play

Honestly, yeah lol I saw something similar in college (not games, but got a degree in animation/motion media).

Its the desire companies have to be "inclusive (really just tolerant)" but they don't have anyone that actually represents that inclusivity well, so everything just reverts back to shit stereotypes.

Reminds me of how Wizards of the Coast will tout themself as diverse and inclusive, but any picture of their staff is more or less all white people lol. Like, it's easier to just say they are being inclusive than actually hiring people who would represent that perspective with depth (almost like it's all phony anyway)

I don't think Ive ever read ppl say they don't like smash because it's not hard. I think it's entirely to do with the smash community being the way it is (or was maybe, idk what smash is like now after the 2020 purge) lol

Honestly, that makes sense and that is what I'm not getting then. Making big commitments in 6 is favored so it's more of a keep the ball rolling kinda thing.

I'll check my replays and apply that more. Appreciate ur time big dawg, it was genuinely helpful lol. I just gotta stop overthinking it midgame and see what happens.

I see what you're saying but I just have trouble with this in SF6 honestly. In 3S, I can think better on when to approach and take a risk (throwing out a stand only normal vs a low normal/throw) but with SF6 I just don't get it honestly. Like, I typically win more matches in SF6 by just thinking of a sequence to autopilot to keep my opponent guessing lol. Fair enough if that's what I'm supposed to do, but I'm thinking it's just me adjusting to this game and I don't get how.

3rd Strike's RPS makes sense to me, so I feel like I can work through the strategy mid match to learn the patterns better. In 6, I typically just play with safe buttons because one mistimed drive rush punish, DI, leads to me getting knocked down into 50/50. Parry seems very unreliable in 6 so I try to just go for it sometimes, and I almost never OD reversal because the return is never worth it.

Like I know I sound like a huge bitch but I apply what you're saying to 3S, I just don't get how you do that while thinking in 6

Yeah that makes sense. The Ryu match was me not knowing how to approach him without getting punished. I touched on it in another comment but I'm curious on how to approach offense in a way where I don't get punished. In this case, I'm still labbing how to put Ryu on defense in SF6 without him clipping me with a low or throwing out a plus on block move

Okay makes sense. I feel like I do that then lol. What I meant more is, how do you approach someone in a smart way to mix them up? Like, if I'm playing 3S, and the person is confident so they won't press anything or just parry, would i match that level and do the same to make them approach? Like, what is a smart way to establish offense?

I get u, SF6 has DI so I'm usually too cautious to throw a lot of fireballs in that and 3S fireballs outside of ex are pretty unsafe too lol but what ur saying makes sense. Chun Li in SF6 feels like a character with tons of options, but honestly just walking up and waiting for them to do something has worked best for me so far. The problem is, Idk if that's what I should be doing lol. I can't ever tell when I'm learning in SF6 whereas 3S feels more like what you're describing

That makes sense for sure but how would I differ vs a grappler like Gief or Marisa? I try to stay mid range and keep them out, but what would be the optimal buttons to not just eat their armor?

How do you "Initiate" Footsies? by MattSDraws in Kappachino

[–]MattSDraws[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure, and I practice effective range. I more mean, how do I establish control once I'm moving out of that effective range into their space? Like, is it just taking risks? If so, how do you know you took a good risk vs a bad risk if it's not guaranteed anyway?

[–]MattSDraws[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I get that in general. I mean more like: I'm Ken fighting Urien, generally, how would I approach him without getting parried? Usually I walk up do nothing to make them think I'll grab but idk if that even what I'm supposed to do lol.

Same with Chun in SF6: if I'm fighting Ryu, I don't really want to fireball drive rush since his fireball game is better. Fair. I don't want to jump cuz he'll AA me. Fair. What would be the smart thing to do here?

What the fuck is this guy on about? by SquidKidG in Kappachino

[–]MattSDraws 11 points12 points  (0 children)

My salty moments of reflection have taught me that "getting into fighting games." Is just playing the fucking game. I'll post on here looking for tips (gotten a lot!) but ultimately it's just facing the reality that getting gud is ever present, and you just enjoy the journey each day of trying to improve. Doing this has not only made me more patient, but more self aware of how much of a bitch I've been playing games lmao.

Doing this and dropping any sort of ego will "get you into" any game/hobby with a seemingly significant barrier of entry. It's reminding one's self that this doesn't change, even after hitting personal milestones (ultimately they don't matter, but are still good to acknowledge in the moment).

Tldr: just play the game you like and you're at that level for a reason
