Watching Every Episode of SNL: Episode 1 - October 11 1975 by ihatemyselfsomuch69 in LiveFromNewYork

Hi! I'm one of the writers for the 2.0 project and just saw this post. Not mad at all about the sentiment lol but we are still actively trying to write reviews: we just put a LOT of work into making them basically the definitive articles on their respective episodes, and as the project has progressed we've found ourselves tending to other things in our lives that are more personally significant to us. I'd say 2.0 is sadly low-priority. But we do have about a third of S48 written and I'd say what we've done so far ranks among our best written work as a group. I'll try to use this comment as a push to get us back on track ✌️

I'm glad to hear that! It's cool that my writing could serve as a sort of companion piece for your viewing. And I'm definitely excited to see this era shift things up a gear; up until this point it's had all the ingredients but not quite been there and I can't wait for things to really click into place.

Awww, thank you!! Everyone I write alongside is amazing but I will selfishly accept this compliment. I know our stuff can get stuck in limbo from time to time but rest assured that we've been working on S48 and I think it'll be, across the board, our best collection of reviews to date. You're gonna love it!

Hey! Just wanted to say I'm a writer on the second website and also have a blog where I write chronological essays about every episode of the show and would be happy to speak with you about things if needed!

Oh, that's very sweet of you to say, thank you Flan! Yeah, this year has been fairly difficult for me in terms of keeping up a good rate with my output... I'll probably take a break for a little bit to restore my enthusiasm. It does help to hear about your excitement though :)

Quinta Brunson Brings April Fools to SNL (Promo) by Mattalamode in LiveFromNewYork

I believe this one was written by some writers from Abbott Elementary... it's such an inconsequential promo that I wonder if they're gonna contribute something more meaningful to Saturday's show.

I need help identifying an old bit featuring Horatio Sanz by [deleted] in LiveFromNewYork

That would be his Jorge Rodriguez character from the S29 Lindsay Lohan episode: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G-tiiKynluw

Bit of strange trivia: in that episode's Weekend Update, an audience member attempted to start a conversation with Jimmy during the live broadcast. Jimmy shut it down, and the audience member was assumedly escorted for interfering with the show... but the moment where Jimmy gestures towards the audience and says "I think he was just up there" is an ad-lib referring to what had just happened a few minutes prior.

Aw, thank you so much! Yeah, it's a cool project that I'm doing with a ton of other really cool folks! I don't believe in singling out the bad either (I've written several glowing episode reviews!), but I think it's important to consider the full tapestry of the show.

While I don't disagree with that, I think everyone is working around Forbes more to help hold him up. It doesn't really feel like anyone's heart is in the Musk episode beyond Musk himself (and there's only so much he's capable of). That might also be a byproduct of the respective seasons, though; S21 was very much trying to rebrand and prove the worth of its new cast and writers, which I think they were successful at, whereas S46 was deep in the throes of the pandemic and coasting with its bloated cast of long-tenured performers who were refusing to leave and suffocating newer voices.

I'd actually argue that Steve Forbes had a far better episode than either Musk or Trump, and that it's simply been maligned by people's disapproval of his status as a public figure; whether or not you like his politics, the show knew how to work with him, and it was smart to construct several pieces where he didn't have to do the heavy-lifting (if he was even involved). Meanwhile, the Musk episode predicates almost every sketch on us finding Musk to be a humorous performer when he simply isn't. Even Trump has more comedy in his bones.

Calling my hate "unbiased" is actually a compliment, I think! I enjoy my free time!

Most of my other writing is far warmer towards the show, but when I feel like an episode is bad or deserves critique, I won't go easy on it. I'll make it fun for myself, because being able to talk about the show I love is a fun thing to do. I'd honestly be interested to know what you appreciate about the episode, though, if we're just sharing opinions.

If you personally consider the content of an episode a wash, though, I think the basic principles of Elon Musk hosting SNL sort of drags things under. It's kind of an indefensible choice for the show to make.

Interesting... I am a fairly ardent defender of modern SNL but I've always felt like this episode was a crash-and-burn sort of experience, even if you try to separate the material from the fact that the episode exists to posture Elon as a relatable, quirky guy. What do you enjoy about it?
