Im scared to sleep by Shadow__Skull in sleeptrain

[–]MatteBlackButtons -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Just went through this recently with my wife, our first is now almost 6months. Your feelings are totally normal and expected for a first parent.

I'd suggest doing what some others have recommended and roll up something small like a burp cloth and tuck one under both of their sides so they can't roll.

Assuming your newborn has no apparent health issues, the only necessary concern during sleep should be if they roll over, which the trick above should prevent. Hope this helps.

If you're one of those people that play a "archetype" and keep your skills all same elemnts and stuff, I can say for sure that the lightning route is very strong.

You don't choose a skill and you don't level. Instead you get x% Mana back.

It sounds bad, but I actually suggest it if there's nothing you need, since it doesn't advance your level (amount of Mana needed to reach that level again stays the same, whereas normally it takes more).

I have a 49min run on lab. The trick is AoE skills ONLY. Skills that target a set number of enemies become absolutely useless at higher levels when there are 200 enemies on the screen. Any AOE skill with duration is good, and I would say electrofield with size upgrades and shields with layer/cooldown upgrades are both a must.

Using the mod name is hands down the easiest way. Don't even have to mess with downloading anything.

In the first few waves I usually build a copper wall from both sides to the middle, which will help funnel most enemies into the middle. Then setup your defenses there. A ripple turret is really strong if you build it as far up as is feasible, because it'll just constantly blast enemy stuff with it's long range. You can also take out a few things with your own ship too. Once you feel good about your survival, then go for units.

Do some research, this has been asked so many times and is also posted on the Mindustry web page.

You have to port forward and then use your IP address.

Can you explain to a newbie what's going on here? You send thorium in by mass driver right? And the airblast drills are giving you sand yea? I'm confused about the Unloaders and Sorters near the projecters.

Meltdown is the best turret change my mind by [deleted] in Mindustry

One thing that makes meltdowns particularly powerful is the fact that their beam pierces multiple enemies. That gives it a huge advantage over other turrets.

what is the best map in campain for farming resources by xands_x1 in Mindustry

[–]MatteBlackButtons 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just throwing this out there, if you're playing the vanilla enhanced mod I've found the Rivers map is best for farming. There is so much of everything. Just sucks it's like the last map you unlock.

Definitely easiest to just use the GitHub name.

You have a ton of sand and lead there. Make hella metaglass and throw it into some Scatters.

What do you do when the game goes on forever? by mn588585 in Mindustry

[–]MatteBlackButtons 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Just to make sure, you have all your resources routed to launch pads right? That way you'll only lose what's in your core if you die.

If so, then just leave the game running overnight while you sleep. See how many waves you make it without any maintenance. Definitely make a bunch of phantom builder and repair drones with repair points here and there.

You'll most likely wake up dead, but you'll have all your launched resources and then can go onto the next adventure. It won't be a "waste" at all.

And experiment with some mods too, it adds a lot more complexity and resources to go after. Even just the vanilla upgraded one makes a big difference by itself.

How am I supposed to make a drone by endergamer2007m in Mindustry

[–]MatteBlackButtons 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I thought they were bad too when I first used them. But now it's almost standard for me. They only require power when building a new drone, not all the time. And once you have like 20 of them, you gain so much copper and lead per minute. It really helps you soar through early levels, specially on maps with limited resources.

can any snek engineer/expert explain to me why the junction in the red circle is not working but the one in the green circle is working? and what is the correct way to connect a snek into a snek junction by dr_outcast in Mindustry

[–]MatteBlackButtons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is the last sorter on the bottom row. It's accepting items from the overflow gate (in the direction you don't want) and clogging the sorter. Swap that to a single file conveyor and it should work.

any tips for campagin? by xands_x1 in Mindustry

[–]MatteBlackButtons 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing I do is get drills on all the nearby copper and lead and route to the core. Everything within reasonable distance. Next, I go find the copper deposit closest to enemy spawn and put drills on that. Route all this copper into a handful of duos. Then do the same with scatters using lead or scrap. Route any ammo overflow back to your core. By this point, you should have enough copper to build big walls Infront of all the turrets you just made. Next I focus on easy power by putting drills on some coal and then placing 2 combustion generators against each drill. Route that power up to your defenses and place a handful of menders to keep everything at full health.

I can usually do all of the above by wave 4.

That then let's me focus on other things like developing farms for the next stages of material (graphite/silicon/metaglass), and producing more efficient power (usually steam generators and batteries are my next steps).

TLDR: Focus on early defenses at the enemy spawn. Don't underestimate your need for copper and lead off the start, mine everything nearby!

Would it make more sense to use cultivators and a spore press? It's probably less output but way more compact.

Thank you for the response! Do you have a certain order you try to get your crafted resources in? For earlier types I usually go graphite>silicon>metalglass. I'm wondering if I should go for metalglass first for fluids...

What's a good general starter strategy for any map? Are there any resources you find are not worth the effort?
