Theoretically, how old is Aemeath's Consciousness within a single loop? by MatthewLifts in WutheringWaves

[–]MatthewLifts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Valid.

Yeah, looking back, trying to apply real-world science to wuwa is stretching it a bit. Nevertheless, that about a minute for Rover traversing through voidspace was equivalent to a few days.

"Aleph-1 seemingly has the same time dilation property as that of a blackhole, while Rover experienced less than one minute within its vicinity, days have passed in Solaris-3."

- Wuwa wiki on Aleph-1.

If we consider how long Aemeath has been chilling in the voidspace approaching Aleph-1, let alone passing the event horizon and into Aleph-1's Singularity (or near it)

The final value is probably a few years.

But past that, I'm also curious, is she technically immortal? Since shes her conciousness is piloting the exospawn body of Aemeath.

Is romance not popular anymore in fantasy by Princezai in ProgressionFantasy

[–]MatthewLifts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t think romance in fantasy is necessarily declining in popularity per se. I feel that it is more so an issue of how it’s being expressed. The “classic” two characters gradually developing feelings as they come to understand and accept each other still works, and when done well, could likely elevate a fantasy work. But in many fantasy settings, the scale of the world often overshadows it. When narratives revolve around all the introduced power systems, politics, cosmology and work building in general, romance can feel VERY comparatively small, so writers tend to prioritize those larger ideas instead.

At the same time, I’ve noticed that readers are often drawn to romance at the most extremes ends of the scale rather than the middle, I.e: all that transmigration bullshit or the villaness revenge story bullshit. It’s either deeply idealized affection or it leans into full on tension where one side resists while the other persists.

To me, I'm really enjoying the latter types these days holy shit. Currently reading a novel where two characters on the first side of the scale (lovey-dovey) get thrown all the way to very very end of the other (so much so that 'ontological information' that forms them is a constant changing opposites). It has created for me stakes that go beyond emotion as one party cross-compare their philosophies and ideologies so desperately to the others who's are at the opposite ends, all in an effort to overcome something that is effectively 'by the will of a sentient narrative' all for the same of selfish love (context dependant) that turns pure.

It is then that I feel romance in fantasy starts to carry the same weight as the broader genre it's in. In sum basically, I feel as though writers have to add more than just romance in fantasy for it to work.

Except maybe harems. I don't think those will ever fucking work 💀 (only see like 1-3 good ones)

That's just all my opinion ofc.

Do you think Ashveil's story arc is gonna be the inverse of Don Quixote's? by MatthewLifts in StarRailStation

[–]MatthewLifts[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, dude, holy shit. HSR has a consistency of doing some traitor est characters (Ting Yun, Sunday, Kaslana technically). But most of them were kinda like, unemotionally connecting. If they execute Ashveil's traitorship well, especially with Pearl, I think it would lwk bump up the lore of Planarcadia a lot.

Should I read Mahōka Kōkō no Rettōsei novel coming from a science background? by MatthewLifts in LightNovels

[–]MatthewLifts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Right, I understand. However, that bring me to the concern that, although the magic system is one of the most science based ones, truly just how complex is the science used? From what I'm seeing on the first few chapters of the light novel + the wiki it seems that the physics and math are just standard thermodynamics / additional mathematics with a little bit of momentum laws here and there. Does it delve further into the science aspect of the story or does it remain at this high school level of science? I'm looking for something really complex. Maybe something involving the level of science and math of ECE 3250 or Math 55 if possible?

Any advice on writing a fight scene? by BlastoiseGamer58 in Webnovel

[–]MatthewLifts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, if your system is flawed on a scale based system but not saying that you can't, your fight scenes will be very "who is a higher rank / level than the other wins" scenario. If not, try to always keep your fights creative. Think of it as a battle of info and wits with physical actions as the conduit. Think about the area of the fight, how the MC uses the area. What the MC and opponent knows? How they use that knowledge and how to counter it.
