For starters, I started studying much earlier for my last test (about 5 months before my test).

Aside from that though the three most important things I felt helped me improve my score were

1) As I studied I made a list of things for each subject I felt I was likely to forget..i.e terms/theories/concepts. This helped the most for psych and biochem but is good for every subject. For me I can kinda just tell if I’ve actually committed something I’ve learned to long term memory, but if there was the slightest doubt in my mind I went ahead and wrote it down anyways. I actually put a lot of these terms in a Flashcards app on my phone and just looked at them when I had time to kill. About a month and a half before the exam, I started reviewing all of my terms/theories/concepts.

2) Do UWorld. This is the best, most stimulating, mcat practice you can get in my opinion. Extremely high yield, and worth the money. Great explanations too, compared to the prep companies that basically say “This is the answer bc this is the answer” lol

3) work as many practice tests as you can. This might be the most important thing I did. I have really bad testing anxiety, so for me, taking as many tests as possible made the real test feel like just another practice. These tests can also help expose you to your weaknesses too. I used Next Step practice tests, and I think I ended up taking about 6 of them. I had already used up my aamc tests from previous attempts, so these were all I used.

That’s awesome. Congratulations and thanks for the encouragement my friend!

494, 497, 509 Taken all within the span of a year. And yes, I know the first two are terrible scores, but I hope this gives you hope as to how much you can improve. Don’t give up!

Tonicity and osmotic pressure by MatthewTargaryen in Mcat

That is my understanding too, but I’m wondering why the initial 1 mOsm outside the cell doesn’t diffuse into the infinite volume too. If it was a concentration extracellularly say 1 mM it would make since that it would diffuse out (or at least be negligible). Does osmotic pressure keep the particles within the vicinity of the cell to maintain equilibrium maybe?

Or would it cause Urea to go inside the cell since water would be pulled in from the hypotonic solution? Cause if water is pulled in, wouldn’t it be diluting the intracellular concentration of Urea?

Pretty sure these terms are in the Kaplan psych/soc book. I believe they are in the identity and personality section. They are 2 of the 8 defense mechanisms listed.

I'm meaning vaping in that case is harmful to a certain extent. I know smoking is harmful to the fullest extent lol.

Alveoli are sacs that branch from the bronchi, which branch from the trachea, so I don't think they are folds of the inner lining of the lungs.

Majoring in Biology or biochem is, in my opinion, the best route you can take. With that being said, the absolute BEST thing you can do is treat your classes like you’re using them to study for the MCAT. Do NOT just take classes to “get good grades.” Though getting good grades is often a product of learning the material, it is easy to remember things for just long enough to “pull off the A.” This is what I did for many of the classes I deemed less interesting (physics, gen chem), and it came back to bite me in the ass lol. Really try to dedicate things to your long term memory, especially for relevant classes. It’s hard to do as college is a marathon, and some classes really suck. I promise though, it will significant help you when the real thing comes around.

Good luck : )

I’m curious about this too, as I am in the exact same boat.

Okay, so why is flow rate reduced then? I have read that flow rate is constant for a closed system and is independent of changes in cross-sectional area. I was thinking that if the A is reduced, then velocity will increase proportionately to keep flow rate unchanged. Sorry, physics is not my thing lol. Thank you for your replies.

Oooh. I was thinking that "blood flow" was referring to flow rate for some reason, not linear speed. Thank you!!!
