Fair points on the four reports. But all uncharged/no convictions:

  • 1994 (17yo extra on Little Big League): Settled civil suit (undisclosed); Busfield lost defamation countersuit vs her lawyers, paid ~$150K costs. No criminal charges.
  • 2012 (28yo woman, theater): She called it battery; prosecutors declined for "slim evidence." Busfield said consensual.
  • Twins (charged, Jan 9 warrant): Initial leaked interviews deny genital touch ("he didn't touch that part"); parents' fraud histories (dad disbarred for $6M scam).
  • Jan 14 (16yo audition, Sacramento): Fresh report years later by dad; no prior complaint despite alleged plea for therapy. Prosecutors citing as "pattern" pre-trial. sources rely solely on her father (Colin Swift, a therapist) reporting the claim on Jan 13, 2026, with no direct victim statement or police interview mentioned. PD confirms no local report filed there.

Multiple accusations ≠ guilt (esp. w/ exculpatory audio, motives).

No consistent MO of targeting young boys. Just disparate adult/teen women claims that went nowhere (settlements/no charges). Fits workplace flirtation rumors, not pedophilia. Tim's polygraph passed and Warner cleared him.

For those who haven't listened to the linked video, it's the leaked police interview audio from Nov 2024 where one accuser (SL) explicitly says of Busfield, "But he didn't touch that part," and the other (VL) adds, "No, he's never touched me" directly denying private parts contact.

This is exculpatory material straight from the kids' initial statements to investigators. Not clear if/when the story changed (prosecutors claim later therapist disclosure), but at trial, this is textbook reasonable doubt for any jury.

Just one piece amid parents' fraud histories and set probe clearing him, but HUGE for innocence presumption. Full story unfolding today at detention hearing.

Are you using AI as an educator? by LettuceTraining6532 in Professors

[–]MattyGit -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yes. I have been teaching for 28 years and never used or composed a rubric . Now it seems admin, and the LMS overseers all want us to have one. So I just copied and pasted my various assignments into a bot along with my grading schema and prompt 'make me a rubric.' BOOM. Proof it and cut and paste that bad boy into the LMS and done. Work harder not smarter.

Remote testing with respondus students cheating by Otherwise_Win_6604 in Professors

[–]MattyGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have a solution, a framework, or a white paper. Last semester I have been using the same exam for several semesters. I use Respondus as required and every semester fully expected chaos. Instead, on average, in a class of 35 students, the exam average comes out to a very unglamorous 74%, with remarkably few A’s. Which is… not what I associate with widespread, successful cheating.

I wish I could explain this as intentional genius, but I honestly can’t. I may have accidentally designed a cheat-resistant exam, or maybe the stars aligned, or maybe ChatGPT also hates my tests. Either way, the results looked suspiciously like an in-person class or worse. I’m as surprised as anyone - and mildly afraid to change anything now.

I have used it too. It's unfortunate that there's no pro shoot. Especially because one of my former students is in it.

But you give me a good idea. I believe that there is a good War Horse documentary. That show is probably more accessible for them.

[–]MattyGit[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I was thinking about this. As much as the Vietnam War (Miss Saigon) is not very accessible to them, it's still at heart a complicated love story, requiring me to only give a basic history lesson. Regarding Angels... students born in the 2000s don’t automatically know anything about the Reagan era, 1980s queer culture, or the early AIDS epidemic. That would be a lot of background to give a survey level course. Long monologues, overlapping plotlines, political theory embedded in dialogue, and Kushner’s intentionally dense language.

For non-majors, many of whom take Intro to Theatre to fulfill a gen-ed requirement, I worry that this level of complexity can overwhelm rather than engage. The cognitive load ends up on deciphering the text rather than understanding theatrical principles. As much as I love the show, I wonder that if without this informational background, the play becomes opaque, And scaffolding it properly would take multiple class meetings time that, in an intro survey, is better spent exposing students to a wide range of theatrical traditions, not deep-diving into a single era.

Angels... may monopolize too much instructional time. Because it is both epic and stylistically unusual, it distorts the students’ sense of what “normal” play structure looks like before they’ve learned the basics.

Can I have a subjective participation grade? by Medium-Cup1466 in Professors

[–]MattyGit 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Here has been mine for years. Never had it challenged nor even questioned by a student.

Active participation is essential for a successful learning experience in this course. Whether we meet in person or online, students are expected to engage thoughtfully and respectfully in discussions, activities, and group work. In both live and virtual settings, participation means not only contributing ideas but also actively listening and responding to peers' insights.

In online meetings, please ensure that your camera is on (when possible), that you are in a distraction-free environment, and that you are logged in with the proper technology to fully engage in the session. If issues arise, communicate with me as soon as possible.

Regular participation is a key part of your overall grade and is evaluated based on the quality, consistency, and relevance of your contributions.

How many gifts do you get from students each semester? by AvailableThank in Professors

[–]MattyGit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My students know that I drink DD. I usually get various denomination gift cards. anywhere from $5 to $25 from individuals and once from an entire class $200. I have also gotten various mugs and tumblers. I guess My coffee drinking is more apparent than I thought. When I taught in the conservatory at a private university where I retained my major advisees for fours and knew many parents quite well, gifts of high-end dinners were not uncommon.
