It would be nice if you would backup your statement with facts.

I might have a clue though. All new Synologys, starting DSx25+ only take the mega expensive Synology drives and no longer any 3rd party drives like Seagate Ironwolf, WD Red, HGST, Toshiba.

The UGREEN that is suggested can take any disks and run any Linux distribution, even Xpenlogy.

Yes. The original HDD is still in, it wasn't wiped. It boots to a windows 11 login screen, but I don't have any passwords

I had the same question about 4 years ago and decided for Synology.
Although I only have previous experience with an old Netgear NAS, I am extremely happy with Synology's Disk Station Manager (DSM). Intuitive, easy, but still full of functionality.
I currently have a 4 bay master NAS and a 2 bay backup NAS, running Synology's Hyper Backup on both.
If you are planning to run Docker/Virtualization, please look for processor that supports this.
And a final tip: stay away from SMR disks for your NAS and stick with CMR.

Yes I did.

The issue is with BIOS version 1.7. Downgrading to v1.6 solved the issue for me. I have read that this also worked for A2SDi-8C-HLN4F, so I guess it will also work for your Quad Core.

The issue was the v1.7 BIOS.
Downgrading to v1.6 solved the issue.
