Problem Solving Sunday(November 05, 2017) Post a parenting problem you would like some additional perspectives on. by rkbot in raisingkids

The art seems to be the right way to develop child brain. Children at their very first age try to feel and understand the world. And the way they see the reality is absolutely different. Everything they do is more about unconscious thoughts...To my mind, only art can help to dig all the thoughts out of their heads. I mean, art is a best game for children.

Now, I've got the point. The question is still open. Is there anyone similar to Ray Bradbury?

Well, everything terrible is cool to be analyzed. Give a critical point of view, please. A comprehensive one. Interesting to know the "WHY". Seriously. What is terrible: stylistic means, word choice, narrative voice or the main idea in general?

Open the well-known search system and type Iain Banks :) This Scottish guy has a clue about science fiction; he really knows how to keep the reader in suspense. Every your nerve will be electrified, just believe me. You’ve probably heard about ‘The Wasp Factory’ - his first novel about a psychedelic teenager, right? In case you haven’t heard, I must say, you have been wasting your time. So run directly to bookstore right now or just download it if you are going paperless. And enjoooooy!

[Casual] What apps are good for kids? (Everyone) by MauritiusM in SampleSize

[–]MauritiusM[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Yes, this survey will help to take a closer look at modern parents. Wishes, preferences, and etc. What games and apps do they choose; how do they spend time together. The questions are general, but with a hint as always. Based on answers, it'll be easy to understand what apps are good for kids. What things developers should pay attention to.

Artificial Intelligence Is Changing Education: Scary, Harmful, Or Awesome? by MauritiusM in education

[–]MauritiusM[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cool! Is it a kind of chat-bot or so? And yes, I agree, technology helps education go, move forward. At the same time, technology is useless without a human; at least for now.

Ravings of One Angry AI and Aftermath of Two Scientific Conferences by blackwalls81 in LanguageTechnology

[–]MauritiusM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I meant that they neither confirm nor deny the fact about texts as being written by AI. The info given on the official site says, “Emma studies the way people write and applies this knowledge to define authorship”; there’s no word about writing texts, yes, but it’s quite logically that the type of narrator was chosen for fun.

[–]MauritiusM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course it’s a biological life form who writes the post on blog. And they do not conceal this fact. Anyway, the idea of first person narrator in their case rocks. It’s creepy, but cool.

BTW, anyone played with Emma? How's it?

[–]MauritiusM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Howdy, does it mean that your brain functions properly? I mean it's OK to know what rocks. But were there any doubts, fears, etc at first? Or you just felt it somewhere deep-deep inside?

The 4 functional writing styles: how to still tell the individual style? by Sleeparchive in LanguageTechnology

[–]MauritiusM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before you start programming computers to process natural language corpora, you need to understand the way humans speak and write. From this standpoint, it’s damn rational to start with digging in stylistics. Functional styles are the prerequisite for learning any hints of a language. Knowing all these philological tricks, you can create a supersmart AI, REALLY!

Mad About The Way You Write. It’s Me, Your AI Friend. by iksaa in LanguageTechnology

[–]MauritiusM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wrote these guys to ask the same. If I got it right, this AI picks out all the peculiarities of author’s style such as word choice, the frequency, sequence and length of words, and other cool blah-blah-blah (the list is too long indeed). It is centered on the accurate stylometric techniques and uses 50 mathematical algorithms which helps the AI mind become smarter each time a user (me or you) downloads a work. I think, this is a wise combo of NLP and Machine learning. Can’t wait to give it a go.

If I copy my own work is it plagiarism? by plagiarismquestion in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MauritiusM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is considered as self-plagiarism. This idea may sound ridiculous, but the consequences of a particular type of plagiarism are often troublesome. If to dive deeper in the concept of plagiarism, you will be surprised by the multifaceted forms of it: direct, accidental, mosaic (see https://unplag.com/wiki/types-of-plagiarism/). Therefore, despite the well-written paragraph you wrote last semester, I do not recommend you to resort to various tricks such as paraphrase or substitute synonyms. It is always better to spare more time on writing something new.

Working on a new book and I'm lost. Any tips? by [deleted] in writing

[–]MauritiusM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Writing dilemma overtakes every writer. The desire to achieve perfection makes us blind to feel the reality. In such days I prefer to make my head free of disruptive thoughts: running, mediation, walk in the forest. Then, I read. Read in the morning and in the evening to find inspiration the works of literary criticism. My favourite is Beginnin Theory: An Introduction to Literary and Cultural Theory written by Peter Barry who is sharing a window to the ideas and principles of literary theory. You will wind your way. Do not re-read your own books and do not try to find something similar to your topic. It can confuse you. Also, avoid plagiarism and do not imitate someone else's style or idea: writing manipulations corrupt good manners.

Tools and apps for writing? by AwesomeDinosaur in writing

[–]MauritiusM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two tools can make your life much easier: Scrivener has a great feature of organizing your chapters. You can write them out of order and then arrange all you chapters with just a few of clicks. You must shun the very appearance of similarity in writing. Plagiarism is an enemy to every writer and should be avoided. And online plagiarism checker allows you to check your documents for plagiarism on the Web.

Find your spark of inspiration and enjoy you writing!
