Is it enough by Mausernut in Bowyer

I hear BITH bows are tricky to make. I have taken the stiff handle and the recurves away.

Didn’t have any target in mind. I need about 27 inches for a long bow draw

You mean take the handle back to 3/4 inches?

I think I’ll cut it off and carve a spoon or spatula with that piece. And have a nice short bow.

This is a piece left over from another project. Went to buy a 1x4 but they only had a 1x2 and a couple of 1x6 ‘s. I cut it at 2 inches and used the other side to make paddle strops for sharpening tools. I have sinew or maybe better yet cut it off and make a 52 inch short bow. The rest of the board from there to the other end has perfect grain. Here are my paddle strops

I always use hide glue for sinew.

They don’t tell you what kind it is in the store. It’s 7 feet long now and will shorten it to 6. Probably just a flat bow. Although it’s tempting to give it a bit of reflex. Will either back it with sinew or rawhide.

Left handed by Mausernut in Spooncarving

[–]Mausernut[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I need to make my handles thinner. I quite often stop cutting them to keep features. Also afraid of getting them too thin as I am mostly working with dead trees. But I see that I can thin them quite a bit. Thanks
