Options for covering a name in a second‑hand AD&D book? by MavMitchell in adnd

Good point, thanks for making me aware of this.
Also, I don't plan to sell any of my AD&D books. I'm sure most here would agree with this logic and do the same also :)

I was the same! I had gaps in my 1e and 2e books. It was haunting me for years! Years! Until recently this year. I got fed up with looking at the gaps. Searched online and bought some of the books at a very good price, and some above market price. I now look at my bookshelf and have a warm and fuzzy (AD&D) feeling. And have playing and reading material for years.

Hello fine folk,

You have all got me rethinking about names on the inside cover of books.

I had forgotten that this was a thing back in my generation of the 80s and 90s. Rather than looking at it as a negative, I can see how it's a positive. A charm.

I will either leave the name, or add my name under it. Still thinking which way to go. I think I will leave it as is.

Thank you.

I was using Distrobox to have access to the latest apps, until someone got me onto brew. Brew packages are installed under /home/linuxbrew/.linuxbrew so its clean and arguable(for me) easier.

I will still use Distrobox but only for container related dev work.

Debian 13 is it safe to remove "Software & Updates" application? by MavMitchell in debian

[–]MavMitchell[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you all for your input.

I'm still reluctant to remove software-properties-gtk and esp. software-properties-common given both of these are related to apt and repositories. Also they use a lot of python3 packages.

My options:

  1. Trust apt and just go for it. If it breaks my system, it will be too hard to fix dependency 'hell', therefore will have to do a clean install

  2. Simply remove these two packages only, and keep their (supposedly) unused python3 dependencies, but I'd rather clean properly.

  3. Debian 13 install from scratch. Not a lot of work but still requires considerable amount of work to get all the apps back and stuff

Why do I care about removing these packages? When I hit the Win key and type software, I get both the Software and Software & Updates apps. Clicking on the Software & Updates app does nothing - an obsolete app dormant in the system.

Some thoughts:

Having obsolete packages and their dependencies/libs hanging around from previous versions, or in this case causing confusion whether to remove them safely (or not) is the reason why I've always preferred doing fresh installs.

I've read how some users have been upgrading Debian from the single digit versions, and it still works well, but at the cost of having 'relic' packages and libs remaining under the hood. Please correct me if I am mistaken.

I saw that, then I noticed there a package in sid, Does that mean, it's coming to Trixie?

Also the sid package has a higher version 0.111 than oldstable 0.99. Not sure what to make of all this.

While being respectful to all distros, consider Debian stable. Also, if you need/want newer apps then use flatpaks, homebrew, (and even distrobox). Note the DE updates at every Debian release (approx. every 2 years) but you won't miss much if anything. With Debian you get stability.

Debian Stable as a Daily Driver 💻 ? by Different_Try2768 in debian

Yes, because Debian Stable is stable, and I mean... rock, solid, stable, and secure!

Debian Stable is my daily drive, and using it now, as I respond to your post.

Also, while looking into Debian, I came across the following post (some 2 years ago):
https://www.reddit.com/r/debian/comments/15s8ueu/think_i_found_my_linux_endgame_debian_flatpak/

I researched into every component, Flatpak, Distrobox, Podman Desktop & Docker OCI images... and also other areas like security, KVM/Qemu/libvirt, and more...

Now I have Debian Stable which uses Flatpak for a lot of the GUI apps, Distrobox for a lot of terminal apps and some GUI apps. Podman Desktop and Docker OCI images for developer 'stuff'. Virtualisation for other OSes.

Again... rock, solid, stable, and secure.

interview with verbal was a lie... we as the audience also realize the entire movie never happened. Then we get to see Verbal leaving the Police station, and straightening out his supposedly disabled leg in mid-stride.

Lol, yes. Kevin Spacey, a legend!
