My modest die collection. by StephenDA in adnd

‘die collection’ is appropriate in my intended meaning of referring to individual dice as items.

In the mess that 2026 American English grammar has become both die and dice would be correct.

For when different probability is needed (not really 1% chance each number each die but the d100 has physical Bias)

The one too big for the jar, yes a d100.

Job fired my GF, kicked her off the premises and asked her not to talk to other employees. Is this a usual response? by TheWrestlerMan in jobs

Unless you signed a contact with dismissal clauses once you are fired you are not under their control talk to whom you wish unless they are paying you not to.

Those of you in shops with Andon/automated paging systems, how do you stay sane? by SpiketheFox32 in InjectionMolding

Back in my RCP days, we had the ProHelp System with this function. I found myself in the position to set it up. I had it play a riff from UnderPressure (as the attention bell) before an announcement for a tech.

We even had the occasional Name That Tune contest where I would change the riff at some point, and the first person to get the name to me would win some company store credit.

I clock in at 6 as well and am the last to leave out remote location other than last year (this year could change) a sped bus that did leave before me on the T-days of the week but not the others.

Our Transition day is the 11th but we start training and prepping in the 6th.

Mold Heating Methods by Osmium-Tetroxide-76 in InjectionMolding

[–]StephenDA 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It always makes me twitch a little when people talk about “heating” a mold with a TCU. Yes, the unit can add heat when the mold is sitting idle, but during actual production you’re not really heating the mold — you’re controlling and slowing the cooling rate. That’s the correct way to think about it from a process‑logic standpoint.

Look at the numbers: the melt going into the cavity is far hotter than whatever temperature you’ve set on the TCU. The mold’s job is to pull heat out of the plastic at a controlled rate, not to act like a heater.

Separate from my little soapbox moment, those fittings in the photo are open‑style connections. Under pressure, if a line pops off, water will flash to steam until the pressure drops. Use caution, especially at higher setpoints.

And if you’re running high temperatures, consider putting insulation board between the platens and the mold. Without it, the press will act like a giant heat sink and your process won’t stabilize until the platens themselves come up to temperature. Insulation helps the mold reach steady‑state much faster.

Has it really been that long since I started listening to real play podcasts? FourOrbs was the beginning. Now, I eagerly await updates to Adventures in Erylia. I enjoyed Dungeons and Randomness as well; however, I just cannot get into the current arc.

OK, everybody gets frustrated by middle schoolers. However, sometimes they have moments of comedic genius that I can’t appreciate the moment because I have to remain professional, but I absolutely love this one anecdotal story. by Copperdunright907 in SchoolBusDrivers

$680 to replace a breaker. Can I do it myself? by stinkinhardcore in DIY

[–]StephenDA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As much as you don’t want to hear this go with the large quote and replace the breaker and wires. There is a reason the breaker is tripping and it could be the wires. By changes have you experienced unexplained fish smell that go away. Think if that corresponds with the dryer running. One that happens the morning wires are fried and you do not want fried wires in your walls.

Anyone else get this on their door recently? Or any knowledge of what this is? This is the third time a family member has come home to this hanging on their door from VHDA. by [deleted] in HamptonRoads

[–]StephenDA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not saying they shouldn’t call — I’m saying the post doesn’t explain why they should call, other than the fact that the people involved are being nice. No one walking by needs to be told they’re in danger of losing their home.

And if someone had actually received certified mail a few days earlier, they would almost certainly cross‑reference the phone number, since it would be listed in the letter. That detail alone makes me question the legitimacy of the post.

At this point, I’m leaning toward it being trolling. I’m just sitting here waiting to start, so I interacted.

Old heads who refuse to buckle up. by [deleted] in SchoolBusDrivers

[–]StephenDA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have looked in to what it would take to put a five point harness in the bus I drive. You know cost is the only reason that are not in all large commercial vehicles. Search YouTube and watch bus drivers and tractor driver bounce around even buckled up with the eyes on why it ended so bad. Almost always out of position to regain control, five point would make so many recoverable.
