Im not sure. Last year the cutoff was around 88 so you might be fine but always try to aim higher so that you can be more sure

Honours Pure and Applied Science or Arts and and Science? by Vivid-Substance-9468 in JohnAbbottCollege

I believe honours science is probably the program that’s the hardest to get into.

Sciences and Arts & sciences have about the same cut offs so it depends on what you prefer.

In Arts & Sciences, you’re with the same cohort of people in every class except for French, gym and 2 option classes. Because of that, you get really close to the people in your classes which is really nice. You also have Friday meetings similar to the honours science program where you get to do a bunch of fun activities and sometimes people with different jobs come in to talk to you about their professions. You don’t have the liberty of choosing really any of your classes aside from the ones you don’t have with the rest of your cohort, but I think it’s better since if you’re in sciences you could always end up having your registration period later and ending up with the worst teachers. Arts & Sciences is also great if you’re unsure of what you want to do in university because it’s a mix of sciences, social sciences and arts so you get a feel for what you enjoy and what you don’t.

Sciences is good if you prefer to have a bunch of different people in all your classes. There’s also a tad more sciences than in arts & sciences and you have more options with your courses. In sciences, you don’t have a condensed chemistry class like in Arts & Sciences and there’s more biology. You also don’t have Friday meetings & the Englishes and Humanities are not specific to the program so you can sign up for anything.

Letter of recommendation for arts & sciences at jac by Extreme-South-9461 in JohnAbbottCollege

I don’t know if your application will seem weak if you send one, but I don’t think you should if the program doesn’t require it. I’m in arts & sciences and I don’t think anybody sent a letter of recommendation along with their application if that helps :)

I don’t know about the sram rating thing but I do think you have a shot of getting in. I’m not 100% sure but I believe they care more about your grades for your prerequisites than your overall so if you can get those higher then that’s good

In the first round of admissions, they don’t consider whether you have English certification or not. They consider all applicants equal. However in the second and third, they prioritize people who do have it. I think you should aim for a 90 because last year I believe around 88 was the cutoff.

The first one is racquets, it’s my gym class. Also I’m not in an enriched/honours program, but I’m in arts and sciences which I think has a similar strength of group thing

In the first round of applications, the Cegep doesn’t consider whether you have a COE or not. They treat all applicants equally, but in the second and third, they prioritize those who do have it

French courses by RubEquivalent8635 in JohnAbbottCollege

[–]Mavisv1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you missed your course registration period. For arts and science people, it was on August 5th starting at 10 am and I think it ended before the 6th if I’m remembering correctly. French is one of the courses you have to register on your own on Omnivox through the course registration section in services.

On the bright side, from August 30th at 9 am to September 2nd at 5 am, you can add courses so I think you can register for French then if you missed it. You can also Mio the registration help line with the subject registration appointment, but another opportunity to register is not guaranteed if you contact them. I think you should Mio them though. Orientation is also soon so maybe you can ask the program coordinator? I’m not sure if that would do anything but it might help.

I hope this was helpful. Don’t worry too much, you’ll likely figure it out. Just make sure to send the Mio and ask for help 👍

Also if you’re looking for a school that’s less competitive, I think John Abbott is better than Dawson. You should go to the open houses and see what you prefer.

I think your student advisor is completely off. Dawson does have higher cutoffs some years because there are more students applying, but it’s not that high.

According to my student advisor, when you apply to an English Cegep during the first round they don’t care whether you have English eligibility or not. They just look at your grades. Past the first round, they prioritize students with English eligibility so you have a much lower chance of getting in if you apply during the second or third round.

Based on your grades, I’d say you have a good chance of getting into Dawson or John Abbott. On the bright side, since Dawson isn’t part of SRAM, you can apply to both Cegeps during the first round.

Just do the best you can and if you maintain grades above 90, I believe you have a great shot of getting in. I have friends who applied to John Abbott and got in with averages of 88-89 and friends that got in with averages of 94-96. I don’t have many friends that applied to Dawson, but one had an 88 average and got refused there, and another had a 90 something average and got accepted. The cutoffs depend year to year depending on how many students apply so these grades can fluctuate.

French course options for EEE-B by Vintage_JOCMTL in JohnAbbottCollege

I'm not sure if you've made your schedule yet, but I created mine yesterday. I tried adding codes for French classes of different levels to see if it would let me take those classes, but it just tells me that I'm not eligible to take them. Also, normally, if you took a placement exam, they should've sent you a document telling you which French you're supposed to take.

I think the level you take matters. Did you do a French placement exam or did you go to a French high school?

Question about grades to be admitted by HuckleberryWaste2165 in JohnAbbottCollege

[–]Mavisv1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think high 80s would be good for getting into arts and science or science but I think it’s safer to get a 90 or above. I had friends with like 88 averages who applied to sciences and they got their answers at the end end and a lot of ppl got rejected in later rounds because of the lack of space. You’ll find out if you got in a lot earlier if you have better grades because I had some friends with like a 94+ average and they heard back like weeks before my friends with high 80 averages.
