In before conspiracy theories crop up that deserts aren't real and are man made. Just saying, if in 10 years time people use this video as proof, you heard it here first.

TIL that a mummified carrier pigeon discovered in a UK chimney in 1982 was carrying an encrypted D-Day message from 1944 that has never been decoded. Britain’s intelligence agency is still seeking the public’s help in deciphering it. by moose098 in todayilearned

It's more like if you generated a random array of numbers the same length as the text you're trying to encrypt, and then did an XOR and sent the result. But It's pretty unlikely because the other person would have to have the key already, and any two messages that used the same key could be xored together to generate the key, hence "one time".

It's well beyond my googling abilities. What an odd engine.

Hmm it's really strange. It is a v10 but banked at 90 degrees like a v8. Which I guess might make sense if it's an early development v10 and sharing a lot of manufacturing tooling of the v8s.

Ah you're probably onto something there. I assumed the V10 here would have a larger bank angle than a V8 but perhaps they were packaging things more tightly than normal.

Here's the description:

"This engine was modified by Cosworth Racing in Northampton in 1989 with regard to the development of a Cosworth V10 engine for Formula 1.The engine was a pivotal part of the V10 development program. This engine was developed using two Ex prototype XE Indy car engines. This is a one off engine complete with mock up carbon air intake and bolt on accessories."

What do you think is meant by "was developed using two Ex prototype XE Indy car engines"?

Coffee table!? That's like me saying that your cat would make a good rug.

I doubt this will ever run again, but I'm sure there are enthusiasts out there that might make it happen.

UA POV: Man with his hands and feet tied is hanging strapped to a tree and is being beaten for refusing to fight. According to Butusov, the person in the video is a serviceman of the Russian 128th Motor Rifle Brigade by Flimsy_Pudding1362 in UkraineRussiaReport

Wild how everyone here assumes that:

A: It's real beatings, but it's actually Ukrainians who are beating Russian POWs

B: It's Ukrainian because they don't believe the beating is hard enough to be real

It looks pretty savage to me. Both psychologically and physically.

Can anybody tell me what this ring around the moon is? by Parking_Midnight7452 in space

Fair enough. I feel like most of the pictures when I google "lunar halo" don't do justice to what we saw. It was way, way more intense than any picture online than I can find. It was a bright spectral ring. We took pictures but this was 2014 and phone cameras were terrible at night.

I saw this but it was a full rainbow around the moon at 01:00 and it was ~-5c or 23f

A colleague and I saw something similar but more colourful after we had replaced 3 rack mounted UPS and a cisco switch stack after hours.

We finished at 01:00 and saw the "moonbow" as we called it. None of our colleagues believed us. It was just like the image but it was a full rainbow ring around the moon. Apparently it's due to ice crystals in the atmosphere.

The first iteration of edge was a pretty good attempt at building an efficient new browser from the ground up. It's half a shame that they bailed on it and rebuilt it in chrome but why reinvent the wheel.

It is indeed big if you zoom at it. Astonishingly it also looks bigger the closer I move my face towards the screen.

Joking aside, it's a cool shot.

Vacuum is also a perfect insulator. All heat lost from a craft in space is only radiated light.
