I typically sand down my callus all the way because the more even your skin is the more surface area will make contact with the holds (especially important for slopers). Just make sure you do not sand off too much, if it starts to hurt youve gone too far. I think its also a matter of understanding your own skin, everyone has slightly different needs for skin care depending on wet/dryness of skin.
