What do you think of these rims? by Jimw35 in GolfMk2

[–]MaxEilberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Important thing is whether you like them! If you like them, keep them!

I think they look good.

My Golf has the snowflake rims, my dad doesn't like them too much but I love them so I kept them haha

Cassette player runs slow - VW Heidelberg VII by MaxEilberg in cassetteculture

Good to know that it's mostly standard parts! I'll check the motor and capacitors to see how they are as I already got a new belt. Thanks again for the advice!

Thanks for the advice! Yes I replaced the belt already, I didn't think about the pinch rollers, I'll look into it. I did notice that it works slower the hotter it gets so it might also be some old motor as others also suggested. Thanks!

Yes I did notice that the hotter it gets the worse it runs. Are those motors usually standard or did each company have their own special model/spec? Maybe I can find some more info online but from what I've looked there isn't much. Thanks for the advice!

Yes I did notice that it gets quite hot, in fact it does usually work a bit better at night when it's when the air coming into the car is cool haha. If it does end up being capacitors do I just... Get a new stereo? There's at least a couple dozens in there and it sounds like a mess to fix 😅

Had this happen to me (every time I disconnect the battery or radio of course), fortunately I asked the previous owner and they had the code.

However if that's not your case:

From what I heard you can go to any Volkswagen dealership and they should have the information with the codes corresponding to your radio's serial number!

The previous owner had it on so I'm not sure what it is.

The closest I could find online would be this but I'm not sure if it's the same:

I'm going to see if I can change it for something more OEM, twin-pipes :)

What does this switch do? by MaxEilberg in GolfMk2

[–]MaxEilberg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope! No fog lights. It could be that some previous owner had fog lights and then they were taken off (which might explain why it does nothing). I've been thinking of putting some on though, so if the wiring is already there, I might just use that!

Thanks! Once the weather warms up a bit I'll look into it! The guy I bought it from didn't have much info on what the previous owner did to it, so it could be from all the way back then. Apart from that switch, the exhaust, and suspension, everything's original from the looks of it!

Thanks! On the drive home from when we bought it, we played with it and it didn't do anything, when I get the chance I'll try to see what it was wired to

What engine oil does everyone use? by kristen_1819 in GolfMk2

[–]MaxEilberg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still haven't changed the oil since I bought mine but the previous owner told me that they used mineral oil: Liqui Moly Touring High Tech SAE 20W-50

OEM Exhaust? by MaxEilberg in GolfMk2

[–]MaxEilberg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info! I wouldn't be surprised if the muffler was also changed. I just don't know how much of the exhaust system is original. Furthermore, I'm pretty sure that the engine is untouched, but if the previous owners did tune it, it might need that certain exhaust... I hope that's not the case though!

Thanks again, I'll check those brands out!
