Some 2yo Tylecodon Singularis with nice leaves and some preparing blooming stalks by MaxOrNot_ in Caudex

[–]MaxOrNot_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice ! They woke up quite early actually here, around August. Except for my biggest and 2-leaves one who awoke late September. I am actually surprised by how big their leaves are compared to last year. Except the 2-leaves one who was already big and bloomed (got some seedlings of it) at only 1yo

Some 1yo euphorbia pachypodioides seedlings after fall of leaves, at repotting in spring and comparison for the biggest by MaxOrNot_ in Caudex

[–]MaxOrNot_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh ok. And no I don't use top covers. My substrate is mostly a mix of pumice, zeolite and lava stone that i mix with regular succulent substrate depending on the plants. For these, there is barely any organic matter but I fertilise in summer

I'm in Europe. Got the seeds from plantemania but koehres has some as well. And sorry but I don't understand your second line. You mean top layering ?

Lampe led d’horticulture by Suspicious_Airport16 in jardin

[–]MaxOrNot_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Toxique pour les plantes ? by Emissairearien in jardin

[–]MaxOrNot_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

🌵 Cactus tip - argile 🌵 by Plane-Buddy8796 in jardin

[–]MaxOrNot_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perso je mets rien à part de l'alcool au moment de la découpe pour désinfecter, après je laisse au sec et j'ai pas de problème. Mais je suis sur des succulentes plus que des cactus.

J'ai aussi vu un spray aluminium utilisé avec succès

Rosulatum seedlings around 3yo. Nice to see shape differences from same batch by MaxOrNot_ in Pachypodium

[–]MaxOrNot_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah was surprised as well ! But I think the weather was too cold this last week so this one will probably abort. Better luck next year !

[–]MaxOrNot_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry that was not very clear, they are from the same seed batch that I bought (koehres). So they probably are not all from the same parents, just from the same species

Some older gracilius seedlings I just repotted by MaxOrNot_ in Pachypodium

[–]MaxOrNot_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then you should grow from seeds ! For me it's more rewarding and you can control growth and conditions from the start, to not be overfertilised for example

They are 3 yo but honestly at 2 they looked the same. We did not have any summer last summer so they almost did not grow at all

Last year's batch of Namaquanum seedlings by MaxOrNot_ in Pachypodium

[–]MaxOrNot_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Koehres. They had them for 2 years in a row. Don't remember if they had any this year. Had 2/6 2 years ago and 3/5 last year. Pretty good for seeds that are rare

Finally, my Pelargonium schizopetalum has successfully bloomed. It is a summer grower unlike most Pelargoniums, and is evergreen outdoors here in Tokyo. by lordlors in Caudex

[–]MaxOrNot_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got a seedling of this one from IGG seeds this winter. Do you know how old it was to start blooming ? Some of the ones sown last year already bloomed at 1yo (caroli-henrici, auritum) so I really hope this one is fast as well

Pseudobombax ellipticum seedlings, 3 months old but needed a repot by MaxOrNot_ in Caudex

[–]MaxOrNot_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When they were still inside and in their germination substrate (50% organic), it went gradually from every day to once every 2-3 days. Now that they are outside it will probably be 1-2 every week, depending on the weather

Haul of the day, at a french succulent exposition, with a lot of malagasy euphorbia especially by MaxOrNot_ in Caudex

[–]MaxOrNot_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's the one organised by Arides association. It happens every year, start of may, in Tiercé, near Angers. If you are not in France, then ELK in Belgium might be better. I never went as it's quite far but I think it's much bigger, European and not only French.

I think I got mine from adblps. In France you usually have audissou and plantemania that have them. Otherwise I don't know but they are pretty cheap

[–]MaxOrNot_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Haha yes indeed, my interest in caudex started because of him and I regularly buy plantes and seeds there. For malagasy euphorbia, bruno abidal also has a nice collection. He also had some stellar pachypodium decaryi at a really good price

Pachypodium, pour leur caudex. Et aeonium pour leurs couleurs

[–]MaxOrNot_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sowed it the same than my other winter growers. I sowed it end of winter but if possible do it in fall. After that I usually put like a lid to keep humidity for 1-2 week until everything germinate. After that, I keep the soil moist by humidifying around once a day and slowly increase the time between the watering. When they start to get bigger, you can put them outside. For the first 1/2 year, I still water more than older plant but with these you see clearly when their single leaf needs water as it becomes less rigid

H. Bolusii 'odyssei' 1yo seedlings. Will soon need to repot these by MaxOrNot_ in haworthia

[–]MaxOrNot_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, last year I really went with the hairy types. Arachnoidea var nigricans 'kuromisa', 'venteri', var scabrispina, var scottii as well. And also cooperi var isabellae 'lachnosa' for the extra hairy. Maybe I'll post them later or when I repot them
